Lerma has to earn his place above Hughes for me.

It's a position where we need to be more cluey with substitutions. It's an area in which we have cover. Start Lerma and bring on Hughes, and potentially Ahamada, if he starts tiring.

That can be directed at anyone at the club after regular starts in the team . The fact of the matter is though if we dont improve we go backwards and Lerma is an improvement on a few midfielders we have at the club .
Hughes falls into that catagory and will need to up his game ,especially his distribution to get regular game time .

Doesn't matter to me who the in form player is and though I get some people have favourites starting a merit table before pre season has even started is a bit unfair to everyone at the club .

he would miss the 1st 4 weeks of pre-season regardless of the injury as he's been playing and training up until late June. The lad needs a rest. Let's say 4 weeks rest and then the plan would have been to re-start pre-season maybe on Monday 31st July, 2 weeks before the season starts.

So whilst the injury is terrible timing arguably the first 4 or 5 weeks (1 week since injury) will not impact his pre-season as he wouldn't be training anyway.

He's only 21 so hopefully a fast healer and clubs have the best equipment to speed recovery e.g. oxygen tents, sound waves therapy etc.

So no need to panic. However, if we start with Jeff and Ayew on the wings!!!
