The gerrymandering is crazy. I don't know how it hasn't be stopped. No other western country has such a level of gerrymandering. The land of the free...

What policies has trump implemented, to help the working class here? He passed a tax cut for rich people, and is trying to destroy Obamacare (which is popular with a clear majority of Americans) simply because it is something Barack Obama achieved. It seems he is going to be a 1 term president, so I guess he didn’t do enough for those folks after all the rhetoric. It’s clear why people voted for trump. Part of it is his racist anti immigrant dog whistles about migrant caravans and Mexican rapists. Another part is his “drain the swamp” schtick, which, given the amount of criminal indictments around him in the last 4 years is the definition of irony. Another piece of the puzzle is his “he talks like my mates down the pub” low brow verbal diarrhea. He managed to paint himself as anti establishment, but the American electorate have seemingly seen through that this time around. He is a billionaire narcissist sociopath, he ain’t out there for the common man, he’s out there for Donald Trump. So people weren't pissed off to see their insurance premium increased, or to see the low skilled jobs market undercut but an illegal workforce. Every politician is out for themselves. I dont think you really considered what made people vote for him, you just threw more s*** around. Like I said, prefer to throw insults rather than to find out why people might vote for him rather than Clinton or Biden. Views like yours caused the vacuum that put Trump in power. If Trump is so stupid, the Democrats should be whiping the floor with Trump.

Neither side is gonna concede here america is mega divided. If they were accepting mail in ballots without stamps which their is some degree of evidence for I can see all of them votes being tossed out by the supreme Court it still probably won't be enough for Trump but if that has in fact happened it does surely bring into question voter fraud also why the f*** did they declare arizona with half the vote in and people still in line with a gap of 5 percent thats just unheard of.

It will be a lesson in how fragile democracy is, and also how “norms” that are not laws or written down somewhere can be violated by tyrants. Every kid studying US politics for a hundred years will study the Trump experiment. Because the democratic vote didn't go your way in 2016 hes a tyrant... Congratulations to Biden on (probably) winning, best of luck to him. Have a beer to celebrate! I'm pleased for all those people who voted for him. What an exciting race.

Inequality has grown significantly by all measures in the last twenty years. A part of society has been largely ignored by politics for a long time (in the US and this country). We haven’t found a way to shift employees from manufacturing jobs which have largely been pushed offshore. To suggest Trump was voted in on racist immigrant bashing misses the point. Parts of society are pissed off when they see huge levels of inequality and fundamentally have voted for massive change, whatever form it comes in. To an earlier post, people with higher levels of education are less likely to vote for Trump (or Brexit) because they don’t want or need change. In modern western society a degree generally gets you a well paid and secure job. Why would you vote to change a system Having said that, let’s not confuse Trump spouting populist nonsense to marginalised parts of society with him actually doing anything to improve their lives.. Tax cuts to rich and trying to get rid of a healthcare bill which supports the poorest hardly seems like helping. He found a way to get through to people who have been ignored for a long time, but he has done f*** all to help them. Edited by IMpalace (04 Nov 2020 11.06pm)

If what I’m hearing from Trump camp is true there is a monumental conspiracy in play here to get him removed by illegal means. He will never accept defeat and nor will his supporters.

It is a weird one. Trump is grifter supreme, with authoritarian tendencies and you'll get no better example of it than attempts to stop a democratic vote count. He's the used car salesman President, someone who you don't mind screwing you over from time to time, because of how bold and upfront they are about it. It's important not to get so lost within allegiance that you start believing the spiel though. Despite his character I do feel bad for him and the country over this though. It's clear that if it wasn't for the virus he'd have absolutely walked the election. And with Dems (possibly) winning the Presidency but losing the Senate it will be an ineffectual four years (though taking taking the foot off the gas counts for 'something'). The election is so close that the fragmentation would've made a loser of any winner. In fact bizarrely the Republican establishment might be the only ones half happy about this. They will continue to hold the Senate while detaching themselves of brand Trump without it being their fault for doing so. It was always an ill fitting relationship. Who even wants to be in power at a s***ty time like this anyway. That said, if counting gets stopped or this ends up in the courts it will go from bad to worse. The transition could get dangerous. The sensible thing at a divided time like this would be to 'try' to work together at least somewhat to the betterment of the nation. Fat chance of that happening though, as politics as usual stateside always involves the opposite. Both parties and the population cut off their noses to spite their face. Politicians who genuinely care about the people get filtered out long before they get in positions of power. A broken system. Edited by BlueJay (04 Nov 2020 11.23pm)

Edited by IMpalace (04 Nov 2020 11.06pm) There is a delicious irony in the fact that the only policies that will save the working classes from marginalisation in the future (transition to service economy, mass automation) are socialist ones, such as universal income. When there are no jobs, there are no jobs. Electing another trumpian figure won’t change that.
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |
