That's why I referred to having a 'Zaha type' player in the squad as the central point is that it would be useful to have another individual with clever footwork who can go past people. Franca may be that guy in time but with his injury and lack of pre season it may be a while before he gets the opportunity to get up to speed. Perhaps a proposed 1 year loan for Zaha is to buy the club some time so that Franca gets another year to develop and it can be seen how JRS gets on assuming he goes on loan. Wilf was such an important player to us, replacing him:

Was never about a like-for-like position replacement, more trying to replace the impact to the team

Was always going o be like succession planning, bring someone in well before he leaves, so give us a year or so to assess if they can fill the void, or we need to go back into the market
