Back in the hippy dippy 80's there was very little choice for vegans and vegetarians. Hockney's in Croydon was unique as in the only veggie restaurant heard of in South London but most of its food tasted like cardboard. One vegan i knew lived on rice and potatoes for a while. Not good. She was a bit of a nutter tbf. But now it is very, very different. All that wonderful new food from home and abroad and all those cookery programmes on tv to whet the creative appetites. And no red-meat responsible bowel cancer to look forward to. Not sure if it is an urban myth but there was always a story doing the rounds that there are blobs of hard to digest very old meat squatting long-term in your colon area. Hackney and Soho are particularly good for vegan food. But any Thai, Chinese or Indian restaurant should be able to serve a tasty vegan meal easily if you take time to ask them.
22 years eating a vegan diet. Perfectly happy and healthy on it. |

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

I am vegan, although relatively new to it, I refuse to push my views on to other people as it is their choice. However, to moan about vegans always 'lecturing' you is so stupid when you see it from the other side. I get the same treatment when I tell people I'm vegan, 'lectured' on the health benefits of eating meat or any other reason why I should eat meat or just childish stupid questions. Whether you choose to eat meat or not makes no difference to me but I do think some people do need to be educated on the facts and pros and cons of both in order to make an informed decision Edited by AshfordEagle94 (19 May 2017 11.17am)

I'm not the only Vegan Eagle! and I wholeheartedly agree, the food bit about being a vegan is easier than the rubbish people say about the choice of being one. 100% respect for the realness

I don't wish to stereotype vegans at all but my point is about the charity PETA. They have a lot of horrific promotional videos that show animal abuse in circumstances which I look to avoid and would want to be banned. Examples like battery chicken farming, 'industrial' milk farms and the like. PETA generalise all consumption animals or animal products as being akin to condoning and funding this type of treatment of animals. I do get a bit frustrated sometimes. If we were all to go vegan tomorrow there would just be so many problems because of the millenia of livestock farming before us. Second, where would all the animals go? Before we were thinking about animal rights, cows were bred in the West to maximise certain characteristics. They wouldn't survive without us! And there's no incentive to keep them if they just leech off of us and we can't even have a slurp from their teats. Third, there would be a catastrophic job situation thinking practically. Humans have evolved so far as they require milk from an early age until about three. Cows and goats are essential in developing countries for their milk. Also, people who own livestock and work in the industry would not be able to earn. Fourth, vegans love animals. Fair enough. But surely if you don't eat animal products because it isn't the animals' preference for you to, then surely continuing breeding domestic animals and selling them and keeping them as pets is counterproductive? Surely letting them go the other way and adapt back into the wild like wolves and wildcats is the right way to go? That is their instinct.

Still waiting for someone to give me actual scientific evidence that my health will improve immeasurably if I stop eating cows pigs sheep chickens turkeys deer bunnies birds etc. I doubt it will cure my hereditary hypertension, it won't lower my cholesterol and it sure as hell won't improve my happiness as I'd be downright miserable if I could never eat another bacon roll / veal milanese / wagyu steak / lamb jalfrezi / jugged hare / cheese and bacon burger / grilled lobster (is it lunchtime yet, this is giving me the munchies) As I've said before, I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with other people's lifestyle choice - you can nibble your lawn grass for all I care. Just don't tell me I'm wrong for the choices I make.

Edited by EaglesEaglesEagles (19 May 2017 11.54am) There's a good point in there - keeping domestic pets. Presumably that should also be outlawed?

Is it true that vegans cannot maintain an erection due to the lack of animal fats in their system?
