Surely we're constrained by a budget and financial fair play? When you're trying to buy a player and the target's price moves higher mid way through the negotiation why wouldn't you walk away unless you're desperate? I give Man City plaudits for refusing to pay up for Sanchez. And we need a striker and a keeper more than a defensive midfielder/defender in my view.

But that's the whole point - they rejected our first offer & told us what we needed to pay. We then offered what they wanted which they subsequently rejected & put the price up even more. What's to say they won't do the same again unless it's up against the wire? If you went to buy a car advertised at £10k & offered £9k (not unusual) the seller might agree a compromise or say no, its £10k or no deal. If you then agreed to pay the £10k & he decided that, actually, I now want £11k what would you do? Walk away or pay too much - it's a choice that we, as fans, don't get to make when it comes to players, especially with all the other traffic around transfers that dp mentioned above. I think last night's game shows how much we need this guy. Luka might as well have been on his own in the middle. WH were just walking through. Macca had a nightmare and cabaye was all overy the place.

Really cant understand why we will potentially use, i'm guessing a large potion of our budget on a DM. Yeah lets pay 18-20m on him and go and sign a striker from Preston. Would be so Palace.

Crystal you say poncing about with offers etc, i know what you mean, but most of the time its the agents or clubs who are putting rumours out there to flush out other buyers and increase the prices, also steve is no dummy, he may even like the fact that the rumours are out there, because our true targets club think we are moving on, confusion rules if you keep your eye on your true target
