This is a great point and exactly where I'm pointing. Our ceo or negotiators need to sell to players and agents just like great salesmen. Tell them a dream that, we don't want be the next athletico Madrid, we are the next athletico. Sell them a million and one things, promise them the world in verbal negotiations, but just be careful what's on the contract. Go watch the wolf on wall street and see how he can sell anything. That what we need negotiating players for us. We need to remember I thin k that we have had a really good window so far. Three excellent players signed up already, BUT when it comes to getting strikers in, the good ones are few and far between, they are very expensive, and there is LOADSA competition for them. So no wonder its gone quiet! Parish is in there though, mixing it with the bigger clubs and for sure (fingers crossed!) a couple of excellent strikers will be signed up, but it will take time

Who did we get for £24.48? I can't even get a week's shopping for that even if I just eat lard and beans all week.

And when you cannot sign your prime choices you have to consider back-ups.This whole transfer business can be protracted and often frustrating and disappointing in equal measure. One can spend precious time pursuing targets for hours on end but then have to look elsewhere as targets choose other options.Infuriating ! I hope sincerely that I'm wrong, but I do think that we should also be prepared for a bit of a disappointment when the 1 September dawns.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

Are you saying SP should sell Benteke / Berahino a load of lies, make sure we put nothing in writing and then tell them the truth when we get into Contract? Do you think that these players might have heard of Crystal Palace before? Or that their agents might have come across this sort of dishonesty before? How would Berahino act when he finds out we have lied to him - especially with his history of histrionics? We might not end up with what we want, but telling everyone that we are Athletico Madrid is not the way to get it.

What happened to the Ghanaian "journalist," saying the deal was completely done a few weeks back. Would love it someone had the link to his Twitter to check what he's saying now. [Tweet Link]

It could well be misplaced optimism, we'll only find out on 31st August...

We know we need to start the season well considering the fixtures at the end of season, all this waiting for Liverpool to buckle is joke. We the ones with only one capable striker in wickham, who proved last season how injury prone he could be. Liverpool hold all the cards not us. I was discussing this with my son yesterday. I don't think Liverpool do hold all the cards at all. no doubt they are in a strong position but the longer it goes on the weaker they become. We all know that every single club in the country whatever the league want a 15-20 goal a season striker. Of course it is a lot harder to actually do. In Benteke's case who are likely suitors? I can't see any of the top 6 or newly promoted clubs being interested in him. Then you have the likes of Bournemouth, Watford, Swansea and probably Southampton who are unlikely to go for him. Sunderland may want him but I am not sure they can afford him. Everton depending on Lukaku maybe? I am not sure any foreign clubs would stump up that kind of money either. maybe after a couple of windows when they get some of the PL money via transfers but not yet. So in my opinion, we are in as strong a position as anyone, we will just have to be patient.

There's an interesting question here about inflation and value. It's being reported that they want £33 million, a year ago they paid around £32 million, he didn't set the prem on fire but aged 25 still has huge potential. We all knew that prices would dramatically rise this season due to TV money and this is proof. But how much is he actually worth, how much would Liverpool value him at if he had done well and how much is added on to his price because of TV money?
