The USA is the second biggest polluter in the world, and arguably the most powerful nation. It is also a fully developed 1st world country. As is nature....all particles tend to the lowest energy state. It's technology and/or population reduction.....and out of the two population reduction isn't going to happen. Science, research, new ideas are what bring about improvement. For example, see the effect of plastic bag charges on reducing their use - positive, no? Small changes at scale can make a big difference. Not everyone is primarily motivated by materialism.
