Gyokeres going to Sporting is a loss for Palace even if he would have costed around £25m it is someone Palace need a clinical goal scorer who gets you at least 15 EPL goals a season. Palace have not had that player in a long time. I think Zaha 14 EPL goals 2021/22 EPL season is the highest for a Palace player. Plus when you have Eze and Olise in your side Gyokeres will score goals.

Need to hope Edouard or Ayew have a crazy season and both get a combined 20 EPL goals between them which is not impossible.

I think Tekkers managed something like 17 in his first season with us. I may be wrong, though.

Of course not but I have seen no evidence that we are willing and able to spend. 2 directors who want to sell and Textor who seems to be in a big financial hole.

If any evidence is shown, then every club will also know. Do you think, they are going to send private messages to Palace fans about how much they have to spend.
Parish and Freeman always keep things quiet for good reason.

Why on earth do you think we have any money? Like I said the owners don't want to or can't fund it so our transfer budget is likely to be made up of savings from releasing senior players and whatever they release from the TV revenue.

I seriously doubt we will be signing £20m or £30m players but happy to be proved wrong.

My fear is that that's the kind of money you need to buy pretty average players since Chelsea went on a spending spree last year and paid silly money. It seems to have continued in this window with the money Arsenal are prepared to shell out for Rice and the 100m Brighton seem to want for Caicedo not to mention the apparent silly 50m price tag Arsenal have purportedly set for Balogun.

We had our splurge at the right time it seems, and did well to have got Guehi, Andersen, Olise, Eze, Doucoure, Hughes and even Edouard and Mateta at the prices we did.

I think we will increasingly be reliant on a combination of making profits on some of our buys and on players coming out of the Academy, especially given the funds needed to build the new stand.

I think we will struggle to retain our place in the PL in the not too distant future.

Good post, though obviously we all hope the last sentence is mistaken.

I see Gyorkes is joining Sporting Lisbon for around £20mn.

He's someone who looked to me to be a reasonable and realistic solution to our acute striker problem. If we aren't going for a player like him at a relatively modest fee for a striker then I can't help but agree with the suggestion that it's because we just don't have the funds (at least without a significant sale) to compete in this league.

I do hope SP and DF have something up their sleeves but it's hard not to feel a little bleak.

If we embark on the stand based on current info on our financial status then we have really lost the plot.

I think we really are missing a trick here, it we offer 20m to Husdon Odoi and 30m for Balogun on a one year loan with obligation to sign at the end of the season, the Wilf, Luka, McArthur wages would cover the wages, Mateta sale covers the loan fees, we dont sell anybody this window, at the end of the season we sell one of the CDs to cover the transfer fees, job done

Balogun has stated that he does not want to go out on loan. He’s only interested in a permanent deal

Nice idea but I can't help feeling you're missing a trick or two too: the selling clubs will want/need the money now rather than a year down the line; they'd want more if they were to agree to your plan because neither will have a problem selling now at the relatively low prices you propose; and why would the players agree to such a proposal anyway?

Not so simple I suggest..
