Here you go Mick. Can't say it helped me much though. It looks like something that's been produced just because it could be.

A simple way to explain it is if a striker takes a shot from outside the box that you'd expect to score once every ten times they attempt it, that would be worth 0.10 on the xG score. A 50/50 chance would be 0.50 etc. They all get added up across the game and the final xG score is how many goals, in theory, you should have scored in that game. So tonight our xG was apparently 2.62 but we scored 4 times, meaning our strikers were clinical and outperformed what was expected. On another day you might get loads of chances, miss them all and then you'd have underperformed. Same principle applies the other way round in defence with xGa. It's not an exact science at all but over the long term can be a good indicator about whether you're scoring / conceding more or less than you should be. In the case of the Tweet I posted, it said that we have had an xGa of 0.75 per game since Roy took over, meaning that on average we should be conceding 0.75 goals per game. Obviously in a specific match that makes no sense but over an entire season it would mean you should only be conceding like 28 times which shows how ridiculously well we have been shielding our goal and preventing big chances from taking place. I'm not sure I've explained that well but hopefully gives an understanding. Edited by Canterbury Palace (30 Aug 2023 12.26am)

| I'm not surprised at Mateta's hattrick. I thought he looked much better in pre season. Maybe its too late to stop him going maybe he will stay. Either way I hope it works out for him.

| Couple more interesting rumours this morning. L'Equipe have said we're interested in PSG 21-year-old striker Hugo Ekitike on loan. BBC have picked it up here: [Link] And we're also being linked with a 20-year-old PSV winger, Johan Bakayoko: [Link] Needless to say, both look like the reincarnation of Maradona on YouTube.

The same was said about me in the charity match I played on Sunday! Unfortunately, I think that was a reference to me looking like a long retired from football, cocaine and burger loving individual.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! | |
