RH is still reluctant to use subs for some reason. Players looking tired or below par should be replaced and subs should be used to initiate changes in tactics. For example Ayew looked tired towards the end of the game and could have been replaced by Townsend. James McArthur covers every blade of grass on the pitch and should be protected for future games by either being substituted or rested for future games.

And if Townsend had come on and given away a stupid free kick or mistake that lead to them equalizing , a la some of Pardew's late subs ? That would've been wrong and people would say Ayew should not have gone.

It astonishes me that people can’t see how valuable Benteke is. Yes, he’s not scoring enough but everything else he does is brilliant. Wins headers, not least when we are defending corners, holds the ball up and offers us an option to go long. Someone called his ball to Ayew a lucky pass. He looked up, saw Ayewwas free and stuck it on a plate. Assist of the season. Meanwhile, I saw a poll on Twitter last night claiming Van Aanholt had played better than Benteke. Beyond belief. He was bought in to score goals and on that point he has failed and is certainly not worth his 130K/per week!

We get a famous victory away at our biggest rivals and you have to criticise the manager - unbelievable. Townsend has hardly played for the last 3 months, but you would chuck him into a feisty derby game, upset the balance of the team and then probably be the first to moan if that didn't work out. As for Jimmy Mac, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You are advocating the use of subs for the sake of it on this occasion.

We had a game plan and won the game, everyone should be delighted.

It is a squad game if the substitutes are not introduced then when they are really needed they won’t be ready. This seems to have been overlooked by some comments.
