Without question the superbly talented Mike Elwiss whose career was sadly cut short by injury - in my opinion he would likely have gone on to be one of our best ever players.
I remember my dad talking about him in the early 80's when I was just starting out my love affair for the Palace, sure I can remember him saying he could have been a top top player..... Unfortunate my dad is no longer with us so cannot ask him, but I am sure it was 'Elwiss' he was eluding too.
Remembering staffie for ever!, a gentleman and true great. unfortunately the HOL will never be the same without him. |

Great players. I knew Lombardo would be mentioned a lot. But can anyone make a team of them?

He had a touch of the Didier Drogba about it. Very strong, both feet, bullet headers, technique and awareness. And I only saw him play about seven times.

Went to Preston v Palace in about 1977 . Palace were unbeaten away from home in the third division so thought it would be a good trip. Preston went 2-0 up , and gave Elwiss terrible stick all game as he was their ex captain. Thought about going home at HT as Palace 2 down , didn't , and we were still 2-1 down with 5 mins too go and then Elwiss scores 2 in last five, one in injury time to win game. Atmosphere turned very nasty then Preston fans looking for fights all over. And what about his header against Newcastle (I think) from the edge of the box . What a goal , never seen a better headed goal.

Chamakh, far and away the best player in the team ATM. SImply a cut above. We wouldn't have stayed up without him
