The guy himself is responsible of course, BUT he was clearly mentally ill. Rather than giving him carers and benefits to gorge on, wouldn't it have been prudent to make him get help? My username has nothing to do with my religious beliefs

I know about Anorexia, not first hand, but I also understand that if someone is capable of staving themselves do death through delusional mental illness, then its quite reasonable to accept that someone can binge eat themselves to death. The comparison is important, because its exactly the same kind of stupid ignorance that led people to blame anorexics for their illness. People do all manner of self destructive 'self harm' for reasons beyond their reasonable capacity to control. Not to mention that there are a large number of physiological disorders that result in people putting on weight. Someone who is a few stone overweight, yeah, chances are they could do something about it. Someone who is in the 30s and weighs 60 stone is a different story. I know about Anorexia, not first hand, but I also understand that if someone is capable of staving themselves do death through delusional mental illness, then its quite reasonable to accept that someone can binge eat themselves to death.
