Apparently Bad Apple is the only club left now Tiger Tiger has closed 'for refurb'. There's probably another thread about the decline in British nightlife and drinking but thought I'd bring it up.

after I finished school a bunch of us went out on the town, didn't get into the Orchid, then tried the Colosseum and didn't get in there, but managed to get into the Rat and Parrot for a few pints. My Saturday nights used to be a s***load of Kronenbergs in the Wig & Pen then round the corner to the Blue Orchid, until the Black Sheep Bar opened and I went on to discover places like The Camden Palace, Viaduct and SE1.

The Underground, Shireffs, The Swamp (Coliseum), Watertown Xmas work parties, The Cartoon (Buddy Curtess), Gary Numan and Bill Withers at Fairfield and loads more. Something tragic yet highly enjoyable about that lot. Worst thing to happen were one or two punch ups. All par for the course. Seems like the best music gigs were before my time at The Greyhound and The Star. Some proper legends played at those places. I remember seeing dozens of bands there, went most Sundays. Including Bowie (supported by Roxy Music) Mott, Queen, Sparks, Ian Dury, Dr Feelgood, Talking Heads supporting The Ramones, The Jam The Banshees and many many others. A great place in it's day, nowhere quite like it anymore.

Tiger Tiger has just closed down, its Reflex that has shut for a Refurb and is reopening as Luna this weekend. I used to work at the Walkabout for a year, some of the very best nights I've had in Croydon were when I was behind the bar. The ladies were very liberal in those days.

Cut me teeth in Croydon. Think it all started at the Rue St George and deteriorated from there. Cafe Moonshine, Snifters, Kings Cellars, Elephant Bar, Blue Anchor etc etc. Thems were the days. Anyone remember a dodgy place above a cafe on the East Croydon/Addiscombe border....'Louis' I think. Could get a late drink and had a dj all night. Edited by fledgling (29 Jan 2016 3.35pm)

The Drivers at the Cartoon, gigs at the Underground and either the Mailcoach or Muddy Waters before and after the match for 'exotic,' entertainment. But equally after a really cold stint at Selhurst unable to feel your feet a stagger back to The Alliance and a stool at the bar, pint in hand with your boots on the heated brass footrail...Bliss!

We both went next door to the British Rail building for a free lunch (we just bluffed our way into the building, restaurant and helped ourselves!). Then we went to a bar in George Street for a couple of pints and play the fruit machine. Happy Days. One night we fancied a beer after work and went to our "favourite" bar.... one pint led to another and before we knew it, it was nearly 8pm and the bar clientele had changed! It was a Gay Bar..... kin 'ell we supped our beers and left with haste hoping no one had fancied us, or thought we were an item! your favourite bar,eh.hoof... I think you are talking about 'the Croydon'

Forgot about The Lord Napier which had a late licence. Vintage jazz and booze after 11pm in the 80's. Fantastic.
