Hoping he is the victim of an unfortunate collision with one of the goal posts shortly after kick-off, and is out for the remainder of the season.

He should Defoe be marked by 2 centre-backs No way, creates too much space for other players. Ideally you want a centre back picking him up with the defensive midfielder. Gives you some slack then with a full back and centre back to cover if something goes wrong. If you put both centre backs on him, he'll drop towards midfield, and feed off longer balls that cut between them or behind them, allowing him to get a stride of pace on them.

Probably would have been worth 5-10m just for him not to score the goals that would keep Scumerland up.

Gotta trust in Sam who's managed Defoe and Sunderland on this of very few tactics they have.

Yes, the problem was Spurs couldn't break them down; Sunderland did pretty much sod all to them at the back and looked about as likely to score as my cat. Sunderland have kept only three clean sheets this season and all of them have been at the Stadium of Sh!te. We overturned a two-goal deficit to win there so on paper and we now have van Aanholt and Allardyce and they don't. On paper we ought to be able to sink these without trace.
