They have been arranged during the break when our squad was no bigger than it us now.

I do agree with this, except this coming season more so than in any recent others we will have virtually a completely revamped first team squad and every minute in pre-season is going be important in sorting our our systems and how players suite in a particular playing style or position. The season kicks of in 31 days (30 for Brentford) and we do not have as yet a settled first team squad in place and we are in a very difficult position even before we have kicked a ball!

I only know what I've read in this thread, but if, as seems to be implied above, it was agreed without the manager's approval, it's hard not to conclude that we're in a typical Palace mess.
