Do you think we could have Hodgson back just for this game ;-) I worry that we may go head to head with them and get slaughtered. This is when we need to defend in numbers and try to hit them on the break. Even then it’s a tall order as along with Chelsea they are streets ahead of anyone in the premiership and Europe. I’m going 5.0 to City so expect a Palace win :-)

Don't think we're ready for this lot. 3-0 sadly.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

Vieria will have a good handle on their tactics and style of play, given his history there. So he's as equipped as anyone to try and counter them. I'm picking a 2-2 draw. Optimistically, of course.

I'd rather we have a bit of a crack at them like we did Liverpool, and if we go down 3 or 4-0 then so be it. Good to have a game with very low expectations where we can test ourselves against the best. Our defence has been excellent so far this season, apart from corners...which feels like 80% of what we've conceded. The other 20% feel like errors (Andersen and Guaita). Almost none (since Chelsea) have been through teams breaching our defensive lines through creative play (which is how City score most of their goals). Also, if we can whip in as many good quality crosses as we did for CB against Newcastle, he is extremely difficult to stop getting his head on them, no matter who is defending. I don't think the City centre-backs are that much stronger in the air (although very good with ball at feet). With a small slice of luck, one or two might sneak in.

I predict that we give them a good game, earn some plaudits from commentators and nice words from Pep, but take zero points.

It will be disappointing to lose by more than three. I’m going 2-1 City

My fear is that our game plan will unravel very early on - perhaps via a mistake or a bit of Citeh brilliance - and then we'll be at sixes and sevens. Hopefully not literally!
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Burnley did a Burnley and got stuffed 5-0. The game is largely in their hands but try and put them off their stride and deprive of more than 60% possession and there's a chance. In fact we're one of the few lower level teams that actually have a chance of knocking them off their stride as Macca and Gallagher can compete for possession in central midfield and push them wider. Huge ask of course, It's not a bad time to be playing them in the week before CL and the United derby. Edited by Omph (26 Oct 2021 11.10am)

Edit: adding detail the idea is to force them wider as this is suboptimal for them and their plan B. As they have no striker putting crosses into the box is their least effective form of attack. What they want to do is cut through the middle. Compete in the middle and force them wide is what Klopp recommended after their last encounter - great interview that one.
