It was a shocking decision Willo and the reaction of EVERY player, from both sides on the pitch, tells you that it was obvious and not difficult for those on the pitch to see what had happened. I have refereed numerous games and there is nothing so good as your view of an incident happening less than ten yards away with a clear and unobstructed view, particularly side on, as it was in this instance. You see every nuance, every little touch and also the speed, power and effect of what has taken place. Furthermore when Dermot Gallagher offers not a single shred of support to the referee then you know just how bad it must have been.

Criticism about the decision of the referee has of course been well documented.Suffice to say referees are only human having to make split-second decisions in real time and perfection is not in the human gift.

Frustrating though some of the decisions were, ultimately there was a level of acceptance of your above points. However, the VAR review of Brentford's goal yesterday was made by someone in a studio with access to slo-mo, various angles etc and took something like 3.5 minutes to endorse what most ( including the referee ) thought - it was a perfectly good goal. VAR is sucking the life out of the game in its current guise. As for the referee, I noticed him, very relaxed, chatting to supporters while waiting for the teams to come out pre kick off. I thought he was comfortably the best one we have had at Selhurst this season.

It is strange that people on here often blame a ref. for any defeat with claims of 'big club bias' etc so it is refreshing that Robert Jones gained the approval of many yesterday. I always thought that he comes second only to Michael Oliver as the best ref. we have, admittedly from a mediocre bunch. I dread to thing what abuse Rachel Welch will get if and when she makes a bad decision. As the saying goes : 'To err is to be human' - too many forget that.

The ref certainly played a good advantage prior to our third goal.

In the final analysis, Robert Jones is worthy of praise for his performance yesterday. Apropos the Willy Boly 'Yellow', incidents seen on the television can be of significant variance from those seen by the referee from his/her angle in real time. I had a conversation about this matter only the other week with a former PL referee of high standing. Was he tall or on his high horse?
