Guaita is an excellent keeper, it’s up to the rest of the team to help him protect the goal. All the time he is peppered with shots sooner or later one goes in. Sure, yesterday he should have done better on the second goal, but on the third no one got close to Chalobah. We never seem to close people down quick enough.

I tipped Chelsea to win the League this season, so not surprised at their level of performance. And my expectations pre game were broadly in line with what happened on the pitch. I thought we looked ok before Mr. Moss once again intervened on Chelsea's behalf. Mitchell should not have given him a decision to make however. I'm sure everyone has a view re playing out from the back, from what I saw yesterday, we don't yet look comfortable enough to do it effectively. So I came away disappointed with yet another performance against Chelsea in which we failed to impose ourselves on the game. That's largely been the case for the last couple of years against them. As for the team selection...Sicknote Tompkins absent again, Mateta offered nothing to suggest he's up to the job and it was a tough afternoon for Mitchell. Positives - Rak-Sakyi didn't look overawed when he came on and Andersen did well during his brief appearance

I don’t think Roy’s team would have allowed Chalobah that room to shoot. Saying that, I would still of expected us to lose to that far superior Chelsea team yesterday. Midfield was a major problem for us yesterday, especially as Chelsea‘a dominance made us play so deep. Guaita was certainly at fault with the second goal and didn’t look throughout as assured as normal, but I wouldn’t drop him after one game. Just perhaps Buckland will fit in better with a new playing system. Time will tell?

Guaita was really poor yesterday . Stood like a statue form the free kick , didn't even try to move . The second goal did not hold onto the ball , let it spill out of his hands , goal scored . If WH had done either of these in one match he would have been crucified by some on these ages , but somehow Guaita gets away with it . I would play Butland in the next game . Your hero Hennessey has gone, get over it!!

I asserted before the game we basically had the same players as last season. I was certainly not confident that we could get a result, but losing 3-0 on the back of a less than inspiring performance was disappointing as far as I am concerned. Mr Hodgson would have come in for some criticism had he been in charge, certainly he would have been pilloried for selecting Mateta over Benteke. That’s just it - Roy Hodgson WAS in charge when we lost 4-0 in the same fixture last season. And Roy did repeatedly select Benteke when most of us had given up any hope of him ever scoring again. There was little criticism for the 4-0 defeat because it was Chelsea away. And he was not “pillorised” for selecting an out of form forward - who eventually came good last season.

I've been a huge fan of Guaita too, but I do think it might be worth giving Butland a start against Brentford. He is a class keeper and needs to be kept involved, also the competition should keep Guaita sharp. A lot has been said about yesterday's game and basically I think most of us anticipated a tough game and a defeat, but no real supporter wouldn't be disappointed. There's a great deal to be positive about in what's happened during the close season and when all our players are ready to play we'll improve. PV will start to have more influence in the set up, positioning and style which will impact favourably on results. We still need a decent striker though.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Benteke did come good at the business end of the season, scoring 5 in his last 7 PL games and 4 in his last 4 PL games. For this reason I believe Mr Hodgson would have been pilloried if he had chosen Mateta over him yesterday.

It was always going to be a titanic struggle to get anything out of yesterdays game other than possibly competing with Chelsea in some part of the game. Also as it's been mentioned Moss did us no favours again either!!!

Mateta is rubbish. How many more times does he need to be played for PV to realise this?

That aerial threat is something Brentford didn’t get against Arsenal and there were plenty of crosses going into the Brentford box and no one on the end of them.

Our full backs not good enough. See last season. Our strikers not good enough - see last season. Midfield too slow, unfit and can't pass - see last season. It was just a last season performance, hence the same squad, basically same result. We need attacking players now, no way that Eze, Olisse and Gallagher can turn this around. Wide players needed, plus Wilf just the same as last season too. Deja vu.
