I kind of like Steely in his way....even though he sent me that weird DM before his short stint at BBS.....and no I don't think he's racist (not that it would particularly bother me as the general political arena are fine with anti whitism). However, progressives and now many centralists think they have the right to tell others who is and isn't racist and what that means....it's the modern version of 'hunt the witch' and makes them feel morally superior. Yet the determination is purely using their ideology, which I often find to be hypocritical.

Yet when different ideologies make their own judgements about what is relevant in that space, they listen when it's 'people of colour' but ignore it if it's a white person. I don't respect that at all. I'm English and this is the only home for the English.

As this is the political side that pushes cultural relativism I find the hypocrisy and double standards overwhemling....but I long since realized that pointing out those things makes absolutely no difference.....all they care about is winning and power. They were given the reins and they make the rules up as they go along.

Essentially, it's 'ok when they do it' and it displays the reality that the race card was only ever about 'winning' for them with centralists against the right....who quickly knelt to them....Hell, even the Tory party knelt to them.

But I don't make this point as an attack on Steely, it's just an observation of that general discussion space.

At the Conservative Party conference in October, Ms Braverman said it was her “dream” and “obsession” to have a plane take off for the east African nation, after the flagship scheme was stalled amid legal challenges.

If there ever is a flight to Rwanda, she should be on it.

A one-way trip.

You and CP could join her as you both want to live elsewhere

Water = sold
Royal Mail = sold
British Telecom = sold

That's odd! I always thought those on the right wanted "small government" and encouraged private ownership. After all it was Thatcher who pursued an aggressive privatisation policy, selling of the states assets at knockdown prices to her supporters.

State ownership of vital infrastructure has always seemed essential to me. It's how to ensure the benefits of competition are also there that's the challenge. Publicly owned but privately managed, makes sense to me.

Thatcher also closed the coal industry which, on balance, still seems wise. Having some steel making retained makes sense, but ship building goes to the most efficient yards. We now live in a global economy from which it's impossible to isolate, without significant impacts. We have overfished in the past and the industry is now finding better ways and new markets.

No reference has been made to her authenticity, it is irrelevant to me.

She was sacked only a week ago for her serious breaking of the ministerial code, involving security breaches.

Her re-appointment, less than a week later.is meeting severe criticism across the political divide, particularly among senior conservatives.

So you accept she is authentically of Indian origin, unlike Rupa Huq who couldn't accept that Kwasi Kwarteng was black.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Particularly amongst the opposition who's function in life is to oppose anything and everything involving the government.

There is some discontent amongst one or two senior Conservatives seemingly centred on those demoted or sacked by the new Prime Minister

I hope not, it would be nice to have a Home Sec with some balls. Well if she identified as a make, Sir Keir would accept her as such

Sundays papers might provide the rope- evidence her code breaking wasn"t a one off!

Yvette Cooper will be thrilled with that idea.

Having an active, determined and innovative Home Secretary would be great. Having someone lacking compassion and with a chip on their shoulder not so.

With the issue of the flood of illegals crossing the channel, the criminal gangs organising it and the delays to the processing causing huge problems in accommodating them, we are obviously at a point which demands a rethink in several ways.

Apparently the cost of doing this is mopping up around half of our foreign aid budget, which is being diverted to pay for this. So the bill is actually being given to the poor in the developing world!

It's a bigger problem than can be solved by the Home Office alone. International action seems imperative to tackle the gangs. How we speed up the processing without compromising our obligations under international law must be a huge challenge, but we must try to do it as the situation is becoming untenable.

If that's true, and she is asked to resign again, then maybe Sunak will be relieved. It seems unlikely she would have been his first choice. She certainly would not have been mine.

If that's what it took to ensure he got the keys to no 10, but he then is able to replace her because of her own actions, it looks like a win, win.
