Daniel Hannan has already said he's happy to say in the single market and that he doesnt want immigration cut sharply. Boris has just said he wants to be part of the single market and doesnt believe that immigration is a factor or concern for most people. The backtracking is coming thick and part. This was never about slowing immigration for them anyway, it doesnt effect them. The reality of the situation has hit home and he realises that whatever decision he makes he'll be seen as the bad guy. I think he genuinely thought remain would win, and he'd be seen as the plucky man of the people, setting up a case to next next prime minister. Now he may very well be prime minister, but in the midst of a very unstable situation where whatever route he goes will infuriate millions. Edited by blackpalacefan (27 Jun 2016 7.29pm)

In the film Cabaret there is the scene where the Hitler youth member stands and sings Tomorrow Belongs To Me. At the end Brian (Michael York) asks Max (the German nobleman) "Do you think you can control them?" This enthusiasm for racism, which seems to be a by product of the campaign (albeit unwittingly on the part of some of the leaders of the campaign), does remind me of this in the way the very far right are becoming far more blatant. Can we control them?
