I used to love watching Aleks Kolinko! Ok so he isn't the best keeper we have had by any stretch of the imagination, but he was def entertaining to watch, and he could throw the ball further than he could kick it.

As one who has been to Selhurst as a boy in the 40's Palace have been generally blessed in this position (and used to have reliable goal scorers, too: Ronnie Allen, Cliff Holton, Johnny Byrne and then Wright & Bright - when will the next one arrive ? - hope it's soon.)
Is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour? [Link] |

I think that Paul Hammond should be on the list of contenders. He was in goal when I used to go home and away, round about 73-75. I think that he left to go and play in America. Anyone else remember him?
However after a shaky start, I thought Paul had the makings of a very good 'keeper - then he decided to go and play in the States.

I am glad someone mentioned Vic Rouse because he was an excellant keeper and very loyal. John Jackson though has to be the very tops. He was picked by Martin Peters (I think) as the best keeper never to play for England. Special character too.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

For me Vic Rouse has to be in that list, certainly was on a par with Jackson & Glazier if not better.

Having been a regular since the early sixies, the two greats have to be Jacko & Nigel!

Bill Glazier was excellent and might have lasted a lot longer at the Palace, rather than make the move to Coventry when he did.

What about Vic Rouse ? - Welsh International in the days when they had a half decent team! We have been lucky enough to have had a string of top keepers over the years and it's impossible to choose the best of them. Julian is well up there with all of the previous ones.
