Ha Ha, I have to laugh at the suggestion of John McCormick and Mel Blyth. I think, like me, you might suffer looking back at Palace in the '70s with rose tinted glasses. My memory, and looking back at some of the old footage, McCormick was like a pylon. Dennis Law and many others leaving him for dead. Typical blood and guts Scottish defender, but not an ounce of skill. Scott Dann is pure class! quote]MKCPFC at 23 Aug 2015 11.46pm Quote Red-Blue-Yellow at 23 Aug 2015 11.24pm
I'd put Peter Wall as the best but it's close with him and Dann. Cannon, Thorne, Young and probably a couple more if I really bothered to think about it, would be not far behind. I think Peter wall was a left back , but a very good one. Jim Cannon because he is Palace. I did like John McCormick and Mel Blythe.

Different eras are difficult to compare to be fair but as a lifelong Palace fan it has to be Jim Cannon for me.Dann is quality but Cannon had it all and was the best leader of men we have ever had at this club.

I'd put Peter Wall as the best You would? Despite the fact that he was a left back?
Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God. |

Really hard to single out an individual as central defence should always be a pair of players working as a unit. The 'they shall not pass,' attitude of Andy Thorne and Eric Young is still one of the best partnerships and I still have fond memories of the sheer huge 'presence,' that was Micky Droy for the brief time he was with us. Where Scottie Dann excels is above and beyond defending (and is is darn good at that!) On Saturday he got a goal and an assist. Forget the glamour players, he is possibly the best all round player currently at the club!
