So then when Sunderland went back in for him he probably thought "They didn't want me in the summer, so I'd rather stay where I am wanted" and signed a new deal. Now that SA is back in for him (reportedly) he might like to follow him here as he was the manager that brought him in on loan. This all could be another case of lazy journalism however. I'm not saying that any of this is 100% true, I am only going by what the player said and trying to make sense of it. But the guy was out of contract within weeks and could have had his pick of anywhere. Instead he extends and now his club want 11m for him. Is it possible that the player himself receives the vast majority of the 11m and whoever signs him then pays a lower wage? Otherwise it makes little sense. He's given away huge value to a club he apparently doesn't want to stay with. No sense at all I tell ye.

Big Sam 'reportedly' negotiating transfer of both M'Villa and Jenkinson. If we can get both these two plus Van Aanholt/Brady over the line, that would represent the kind of defensive strengthening we need
