The rest depends on fitness after the brentford game. I appreciate PV's ambition, buy why reveal your strategy ahead of the (one hour?) deadline for naming your team? Watford may have been thinking of playing a load of youngsters on the assumption that we would do likewise, but now they have the ability to react to what we are going to do. Surely you should keep quiet and explain your actions after the game. Christ; it's not as if we've had the luxury of a string of recent cup victories! Or maybe it's a double-bluff... According to our loveable click-bait, Vieira, the whole team & club, are 'gutted' about Luka's injury(?) Bearing in mind, he is still in Serbia dealing with his father's death & other family related issues.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

There’s a lot been said about PV introducing a ‘ winning mentality ‘ to the club. There’s also been a lot said in the past about Hodgson’s selections and general approach to cup competitions. PV appears to believe that the best way of winning games is by picking your strongest team. Difficult to argue with that philosophy. If that’s the way he indeed plays it tonight.

I hope he plays the best team we have for 2 reasons: There were definitely positive signs against Brentford of a style of play emerging. It would be good to get some more time to practice that, and get some more minutes in CG and Benteke. I’m at peace with the fact that mid table is a realistic/optimistic aim. But every couple of years it would be great to have a bit of a cup run, so we need to get through the early rounds and then hope the draw opens up

The quicker the first team become comfortable with the new system, the better.

So, Vieira true to his word with a strong line-up and bench. Palace: Butland, Tomkins, Andersen, Guéhi, Ward, Schlupp, Kouyaté, Gallagher, Ayew, Zaha, Mateta. Subs: Guaita, Mitchell, Kelly, Riedewald, McArthur, Rak-Sakyi, Benteke.
