And if that is indeed the case, then I can see Roy and Ray being given another year.

That's my take on it as well. Whilst Tomkins had a shocker against Fulham he was ok in his other 3 starts and 3 sub appearances. I suspect his new contract will see him on reduced wages given his current place in the CB pecking order. I would hope Clyne's wages will be brought more in line Ward's.

ON a general note regarding our finances, with several of our Academy players doing well in lower Leagues last season (especially Rak-Sakyi, Phillips and O'Brien) Parish may be hoping that if he can get them loans to clubs in a higher league (the Championship clubs in the case of those three players) they might be ready for 1st team consideration in 24/25. Unfortunately, we don't seem to have a RB in the Academy who has made an impression out on loan.

Mitchell defo needs to be challenged for LB

And the particularly frustrating thing about that is the league looks s*** next year.

Luton, Sheffield United, Burnley, Forest, Bournemouth all expected to be poor. Everton, Wolves, Fulham not much better.

Villa, West Ham, Brighton and Newcastle all have to deal with Europe. Brentford have no Toney until January.

Honestly, if ever there was a chance to hit the top 10 it's next year.

If there is to be little investment then it needs to be spent very well, and there needs to be something to show for it (e.g. the main stand does something).

I would keep Ward but the other 2 can jog on. Freedman is useless as DOF. If this decision is true it doesnt fill me with confidence for the summer transfer window.

This is a ridiculous shout. We're home to three of the best young talents in the prem (MG, EE and MO) - Doog scouted them all.

I am not sure Clyne is on the money that is reported (c£60k a week). With his injury record i'm sure much of his deal is appearance based and whilst his Liverpool salary was widely known his CPFC contracts have never been published (to my knowledge).
The previous year he was on reportedly on c£20k a week so after making 16 appearances i can't see SP increasing his wage by 200%.

With Tomkins maybe the logic is that Guehi will be sold this summer. If so then Tomkins's experience may be beneficial.
Personally, he reminds me of Dann in his final season with us, a liability and a shadow of his former self.

So why didn't any of the other PL clubs go for them? and why did Chelsea let Guehi go?

Answer = Dougie clearly saw what others didn't see or who weren't prepared to take a chance on the potential.

Perhaps just me Robbo however I didn't know much about any of them before their arrival nor did I envisage their success to the extent it has played out.

I think Freedman is obviously operating within fine margins. Even the likes of BHA have hd x times more failures than they have had successes, with more finance and a superior set up.

Problem for me is we have probably only had one real window where investment with sincerity played out and I'd suggest that was out of absolute necessity as oppose to ambition. We've lived off of that almost singular period for a bit now but were we to see any repeat I'd suggest things would be looking up.

Johnstone, Andersen, Guehi, Doucoure, Eze, Olise all good buys with even the likes of Richards contributing meaningful cameo parts when necessary. I wouldn't argue against Hughes however much can and has been said about Edouard and Mateta however strikers are often cited as hardest to find, recruit and find success with.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Joel Ward has signed a one-year contract. I'm pleased for him.

Excellent news, but that is it now, no more extensions

Andros released by Everton, he will be a free agent.

Nothing to do with it, I know.

He was flying when he did his achilles in, also did some punditry.

Back to full fitness apparently, the spectre of injury always looms.
