Point taken, you can always find exceptions and differences in approach to young players. But consider the way Michael Olise was gradually introduced. Under Vieira I believe. Hasn't turned out badly for him has it ? Olise did have a back issue when he joined so had to be careful with him anyway. Otherwise he he may have been in the team earlier. The thing with França is from what I heard (from south American expert) he wasn't a regular starter back in Brazil and also quite raw and although capable of moments of brilliance he was also prone to making errors and giving ball away quite often. So he may have needed some more coaching before being thrown in at the deep end.

Pointing to other players is a futile exercise, every player will mature and learn at different speeds. Especially Bellingham, that boy is different gravy. Franca hasn't got many minutes under his belt, and hasn't got any experience of English football. The first half of this season was always going to be about finding his way, and partly that will be waiting for the right opportunities. And not settling him up for failure (e.g. bringing him on at 1-1 only for him to make a match costing mistake). So I expect we'll see him on Tuesday, but only if the conditions are right.

Or Thursday... and you have to add his back injury he came with. 6 months to settle and get molded from full fitness; then the rest of the season to cure. I don't think we will see the real Franca (if at all) until next season; but I am holding out hope he will be the real deal.

Edited by Pete53 (17 Dec 2023 10.45pm) Yes but he was viewed as one of the top defenders who had played in the Championship the previous season. There's a world of difference between jumping from the Academy into a PL first XI and stepping up from the Championship into that XI. He was also the England U21 captain.

Well with the AFCON starting, first game 13 Jan, three more games for Ayew, the you would hope Franca would get a run in the team unless we visit the Loan market.

If it’s a choice between Schlupp and Franca it seems clear who Roy will choose.

Roy is very complimentary about Franca. Apparently learning everything fast. So his future is looking good. But it looks like he will be introduced in a similar style to how Foden was.

Loaning in a player to replace someone on International duty, while we have a £17m signing right there who can play in that position sounds insane to me, Franca should play in that instance.

I remain in the belief that Franca will be a first team regular by the end of the season. The money spent suggests as much, and it's just a matter of introducing him gradually. If Hodgson doesn't play him then that will be contrary to Parish's stated aim of bringing youngsters through as a policy for the club's progression and sustainability.
