The one thing I would say in favour of Potter is that he transformed Brighton from an ultra-defensive team that were hard to watch into one of the most attractive footballing teams in the PL, so he has done it before. De Zerbi is rightly getting lots of plaudits, but he had a strong base on which to build when he came in. I'm not sure he is someone you bring in mid-season though.

Has anyone done the ‘I’ve just seen him in Sainsbury’s’ Joke yet?

On it was written ' Palace defence ' with a picture of a bus. What could it mean ? Edited by NEILLO (23 Jan 2024 4.59pm)

There may have been but I doubt that, they would probably have been delighted if he went straight to Utd or Spurs and let’s not forget that they wanted him gone and not the other way round so I doubt he was considered that much of a threat.

Potter will need to be careful about his next job as if he fails as badly again his stock / reputation would take a while to recover. That along with his Brighton connections would make us too big a risk for him in my opinion.

For me the Brighton connections are irrelevant - Mullery started that episode & we even employed him, let alone a number of players since then including Murray - Are we really going to turn our noses up at a decent, thinking mans manager with a largely good pedigree just because of a spat that took place in the heat of the moment some 50 odd years ago (fuelled by the media & given way longer exposure than it deserved) Are we that far up our own Arsenals ?

I agree he’s a good manager and it wouldn’t bother me. But if I were him I wouldn’t fancy us much.

This is the one thing I respect about AP he did have ambition I don't see Potter even interested in the Palace job why would he be the same with many other managers this is a big issue we have (The ones which are I expect mostly lower league managers or from not top flight foreign with little knowledge about club) I expect Cooper (I hope not) will be the one SP has had him on list for a long time and we know that is what he tends to stick with even after years. Edited by grumpymort (24 Jan 2024 8.42am) Agree with all of that, even on Pardew! I would imagine Potter would see us as a very risky, 'make or break' move therefore would understand his reluctance to come. Conversely, I have the impression Cooper may see us as a potentially limited opportunity to restore some prestige to his name.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
