Was speaking (on houseparty) to a mate of mine who is a pub landlord.
He said he had been told that pubs wont be opening until winter at the earliest.

GDP in 3019 was £2.2 trillion.

The 4 month lockdown is 10% of DGP.
The 8 month lockdown is 22% of DGP.

On top of the debt close to £2 trillion already.
Then the usual borrowing after Covid.

But it’s the tax revenue that’s important. Try paying all that back with low revenue. Italy, Spain and France could go off the scale. EU talking today.

The tax take will increase due to companies and individuals wondering if it might be better to pay onshore tax and the correct tax. This bailout has highlighted that help will be available relative to what you put into the pot. Dividends will be less so NI will also go up.

Doesn’t it depend on what happens in other countries? Someone has to bite the bullet but if they’re open in other places it seems unnecessary to keep them closed here.

He also pointed out the stocking problem.

No pubs will have any stock that will still be usable in a couple of weeks, will take ages to restock all of them.

He said that breweries wouldn't be too keen on giving pubs loads of credit to restock if there's a danger of them going bust, or having to close again due to another lockdown.

All of this comes from him, he is a landlord, but also worked quite high up in the brewery game.

The pub opposite us sold all their beer and cider off for £1 - £1.50 a pint (bring your own jug) as soon as lockdown was announced .

This is so sad.
Apart from the deaths and families coming to terms with that there is the families not being able to be that, families. I havent hugged my mum n dad n daughter and SIL ( hes a good boy) for 5 weeks and just, well, whatsapping and saying be safe is sad.
I cant wait to be out of this. Ffs the mental stress and emotion is mad. I'm not the only one I know but love to all you guys and let's get through this and be families and friends again. This brings home how special we are to each other.
Xxx

That makes sense but any supplier of perishable goods is in the same position. I’m just clutching at straws - a bit keen on the boozer being open.

Good post. My son is stranded in Essex with his girlfriend ( he seems happy) and my daughter is in a 1 bed flat with no open space in Guildford, not being able to see them is very distressing. Daughter going a bit stir crazy and who can blame her

BACK TRACK ALERT

WHO now saying live animal markets should not be closed down as it is their culture, nothing to do with China increasing their contributions to WHO?
