yes those pens were awful but he's not the only decent striker to try something and it not come off, Henry Pirez anyone ?

The fact is he IS a good player, unfortunately the players around him (wilf seemingly the only exception) have lost their confidence (shredded by mildew) and it's now about recovery, I am confident we will stay up, but only because there are a number of teams in and around us that are in worse states than we are.

Selling Benteke your leading goalscorer is not the answer.

Benteke is guaranteed to score 15 this season which I would say should keep us up.

He is not the problem - the back four are playing like a pub team.

Left back is crucial but also some strength in the middle of the park would be good so we don't get overrun every game we play.

I don't get why we never play through balls for him. I don't think I've seen is try one in spite of him clearly pointing where he wants it played and there being a gap. I don't think I've seen us play a through ball since AJ left

The issue is that he expects the wide players to cross the ball to his head. He isn't rubbish. You can see of recent that there was very little forward passing/though balls from our players. Perhaps, this is all due to Pardew's training and style. I hope BFS can change that.

Think it's 2 missed penalties and about 10-15 sub-par performances. I was as excited as the next fan when we signed him and think he could still come good, but just watch him. He never gets on the end of anything and is often in a different post code when we're attacking. He's shown flashes, but for the money, we need more than flashes.

I was massively underwhelmed when he was announced BUT I'm changing my opinion. He needs better service and I can't think of anyone proven in this league that 1) would be available, 2) would want to come to a bottom 5 club and 3) would cost less than £25m.

CB is proven in this league, 42 goals in 89 league games for AVFC, 9 in 29 for LFC and now 8 in 18 for us. Yes, 2 penalties would make his league stats for us even better, but you can't call him 'sub-par', he needs better service & support.

If - and it's a big if - we could get back our money, we'd just have to spend it on a 20 goal a season striker in the prem, and that's not going to happen unless you can unearth a 'Vardy' from somewhere in the lower leagues AND he hits the ground running.

Sell our top scorer at this stage of the season. Yes - sounds very wise to me. If this guy got any sort of service he would be in double figures even with missed penalties. As it is he has to deal with balls hoofed randomly in his vague direction out of defence or wild crosses from supposedly international class wingers. All that with no support around him to lay a ball off to if it happens to miraculously arrive to his feet or head. I for one think he has done superbly given the dross he has had to deal with week in week out this season.

Sell Benteke and we will be heading to the Championship

It's not just about his goals, like Sunderland if they sell Defoe, what message does it send to the rest of the squad?

Our top PL strikers are:
Chris Armstrong 23
Andrew Johnson 21
Jason Puncheon 15
Dwight Gayle 15
Wilfried Zaha 10
Scott Dann 10
Yannick Bolasie 9
James McArthur 9
Glenn Murray 8
Eddie McGoldrick 8
Christian Benteke 8

It looks like he will be our first double figure scoring forward since Calvin Andrew and may well go onto get the magical 20. To sell him would be insane

You might just find that as Wilf is not about for a few games the ball might get up the field and crossed quickly onto him instead of Wilfs fannying about before he crosses might just work.

How?

He's the centre forward. He just gets the ball lumped up to him. What do you expect him to actually do?

I don't believe it for one moment. If he goes on and gets to 15 goals then I don't think he should be seen as a flop.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

No point. Had someone in same mold - Gayle - never used him. Need a big fella.

Different manager style plus the main fact that Gayle is not good enough at this level, Defoe is!

I think this is rubbish, unless they already have a massive bid from the Chinese league.

Think of Benteke like a gun, no bullets he can't shoot. The rest of the team supply the bullets. They aren't doing hence it looks bad on him.

We could have Lionel f***ing Messi up front and you'd be moaning about him not scoring after six games. Fact is if you haven't got the ball you can't score.

Not to mention the fact that when the ball is played to him, it's normally been walloped by Ward or Delaney at 60 mph 20 feet in the air.

All of the above spot on. His class when on the ball shines,Shame we feel the need to smash it up in the air to him. Both Tompkins and Delaney several times against Swansea had loads of time and space but instead of passing the ball or bringing it forward a bit just hoofed it up to Benteke who was up top on his own. They need to calm down and think a bit more.
