For longer term planning it would make sense to have Johnstone and Butland as the No.1 and 2 as we know Guaita will probably leave next summer anyway. But I suspect it may be Butland who leaves simply because they will get a small fee for him.

I have a very uninformed and personal theory that this season will be to test the water as to whether Johnstone is a capable no.1 and Butland still has something to offer. I can imagine the hope being that Johnstone proves a very astute signing and steps up to be our main man and perhaps Butland may show that he can at least be a very good deputy if not push for a starting place. Guaita leaving his post must be inevitable whether it be competition, age or a move back to Spain. Could all go t**ts up of course. I can very well envisage Johnstone being the only GK here the following season and us looking either for his deputy or a no.1 to start ahead of him again.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
