I was just thinking that release clauses would be pointless unless the buying team knows. I guess you can't really keep a release clause secret that easily. I have no idea how details of release clauses are given but, as I say, logically they must be known about. Unless teams just guess which seems silly. Any club interested in a player would contact their agent first to test the water for a move. The agent would confirm details of the players contract, it’s in his interest to get a move and another fee.

The rumour with Chelsea seems to be that they've offered more than the supposed £35m so as to structure the payment differently. If that really is the case, surely we don't have to accept the offer or we can insist on an even higher fee if Chelsea really want him and aren't prepared to pay it all up front?

Yes, of course, but the rumours are still unsettling on the team and fans, we are currently still players short of a settled first team squad and the kick off is now just around the corner. Don't forget Parish let AWB go and never at that time invested money from that sale in the first team. Sorry, but season after season we are always the same, we leave everything to the last minute and the managers never get time to blend new players in before we are in the thick of it!

Edited by Jacey (31 Jul 2023 4.28pm) It's not on Wikipedia etc. I suspect he did but it has been bought out or a new contract is under discussion. I think he realises that he needs regular first team football and this combined with injury will want to stay with us for a little longer. If he does still have clause he will be bought with existing injury which will mean new club having to self insure as well. My guess is he will sign a new contract with a higher release clause probably around 70 million and get fit again and if anyone activates it then he will go.

Anyone else wondering if as soon as we sign Franca Olise will be off to Chelsea? No facts just my suspicion that the board have told Chelsea we need to placate the fans with a signing first.
