Insurance. Its not a position you can gamble with. We need two keepers and one back up.

As we can only play one at a time, surely you mean one keeper and two back ups?

Something like that! Actually something like the situation we're in now - Johnstone was a bit injury prone, I think, and having Whitworth as the number 2 was...too risky.

Surely Matthews would have been no 2 and Whitworth no 3?

When Hendersen is fit and played a few games in the under 21s, one will be sold at the next window, Johnstone increasing his contract only increases his price.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Will he ever be fully fit? Didn’t Forest refuse to sign because of his fragility? It could end up a Nathan Ferguson signing all over again and then it really is a massive waste of money.

Roy wanted to play two keepers but was stopped by the rules.

I think the warning signs were there, he injured himself signing the contract.

My guess is this will surpass the Ferguson debacle due to the transfer fee and wages paid. He's now seemingly had the same injury twice, merely by kicking the ball. Now when fit I expect we're going to need him to be able to kick the ball again. Just feels like he's going to be an expensive ticking time bomb. I'm going to guess he won't make 40 starts for us. Hope I'm wrong and he's a stalwart for us for the next ten years but I have a bad feeling.

I saw Owen Goodman play for Colchester last weekend, at Stockport.
Looked ok, without standing out. No really hard saves to make and little he could have done with either goal. Not the most dominant at set pieces, despite being 6 ft 4, but did punch well when under pressure.
Clearly not ready for the Prem now but he has a bright future in front of him.

Both he and Whitworth are still only 19 and both have played for England at younger age groups.

So i would have thought next year Matthews can be released and one of these 2 will be third choice (or 2nd if injuries).
The other can be sent out on loan.

Nobody’s going to spend anything like what we paid for Henderson…..manu couldn’t believe they found some mugs to take him and pay that.

I can see Franca being loaned out somewhere …..he’s not good enough yet for the first team squad and needs to be playing senior football…won’t improve playing in the youth team.
