the Beatification of Joe Strummer has been tedious in the extreme. He was never fit to tie the bootlaces of a proper genius like Tom Waits. And for the Record, music festivals , like Glastonbury, are my idea of Hell. Never did, never would. Not for all the Tea in Fortnum & Masons. Edited by PalazioVecchio (23 Jun 2024 5.57pm)

There was a time when not knowing a number one act was almost inconceivable (Tuesday lunchtime for the chart update on the radio) but now they can have several without my even being aware of them. the charts and top of the pops was massive back in the day and a highlight of the week back then, so I see what you mean now, I didn’t even know the charts were still a thing to be honest. I remember watching totp’s Thursday night, then buying two or three of the latest singles the next day, then recording the charts Sunday afternoon by holding my cassette recorder Mike up to the radio, as we did back then Edited by monkey (23 Jun 2024 6.07pm)

You’ve probably seen all the films though Never saw Barbie - as what man would. And my kids are too old for Frozen so didn't have to endure that. But the rest, unfortunately, yes. Although Robin Hood is more of a comedy if you watch it now. Still cannot stand anything about Titanic and could only wish the ship would sink sooner in order to free me from that hell. The Bodyguard was one that tried to appeal to men with a bit of action - but failed. But I suspect none of the films are the worst of all time. But the songs almost (certainly) have lasted longer than the films. Can no one make them go away?

Ha yes I hate them all. So MOTR it hurts. The Specials I do love, of course. But the Clash tops my list of the overrated. Far too earnest, erzat agit but largely dull. So well done. You were half right. Well, I have to tell you that as I get older, I am moving more to the middle of the road. I haven't stopped liking all the stuff I used to like, I'm just hearing it thought the ears of a 60 year old and re evaluating its position in terms of quality and longevity.

Although I haven't tried listening to punk for quite a while. I might enjoy it again.

I always considered songs by Jim Reeves doleful and a cure for insomnia. When I heard his songs on the wireless,on my face fell the sort of frown you might discover on a Koala bear in the advanced stages of constipation.

Remember to rewind a fraction before each song or you'll record the clicking of the cassette player going off.

Reminds me of the schoolyard version of one of his hits - I Hear the Sound of Distant Bums.

What is their fascination with country and/or saccharine schmaltz? Gentleman Jim Reeves is both and I am sure his success was wholly attributable to the vast Irish diaspora.
