Really you don't recall anyone calling heath that.....I remember it coming front quite a few (of all parties) at the time.
And I wonder why we were a complete basket case as you are saying.
The unions had us all by the short and curlys,3 day week power cuts.
Selective memories of people I think.
The agreement was for us to have closer trading ties with European countries, not a federal state.

The 'Grocer' epithet originated in Private Eye after his promise to reduce the cost of the weekly grocery shopping.

He was also known as 'Sailor' not just because of his yachting activities but because of his alleged preference for seamen.

Why would anyone be interested in the private eye.

Heath was a yachtsman his boat Morning Cloud they nicknamed him Sailor Heath from that and nothing like the disgusting references you make - still he's dead isn't he so you can make them.

You called yourself by the right name so why did you alter it?

Absolutely. Some also forget to mention that the global economy at the time was in chaos

The end of the Bretton-Woods system in '71 (where currencies were tied to gold, ie something tangible) allowed the banking sector to print money like it was going out of fashion (ring any bells?) causing massive inflation and everything that comes with it.
Chuck into the mix a global energy crisis and ANY party at the time would have died a death under these conditions.

I agree tux, heath or Wilson were totally f***ed with whatever they did,a million people unemployed.
Heath himself I think put 2.5 billion into the economy with little or no effect.

I take it all back. I am cowed by your obvious intellect and your rapier-like wit and repartee. There is no way I could ever believe you to be one of the most impenetrably dense and stupid posters on this forum.

UK Parliamentary sovereignty, requires that any significant change to the UK, does so via the democratic process of government.

The idea that somehow you could 'reclaim sovereignty of the UK from the EU' but then campaign and complain when you then have to follow UK sovereignty in doing so, is absurdly stupid.

And a number of Brexiters are showing a rank ignorance on how the UK Legal and political system have worked for hundreds of years. The irresponsibility of the media and the ignorance of just how judicial and parlimenary law interact, and how UK systems of change operate is either terrorfying or very agenda driven

Thank you, jamiemartin721, the expert on constitutional law. I'm glad you, other like-minded remainers, as well as the whole host of celebrities, experts and international leaders are able to expose this level of ignorance before we vote in the referendum. We'd be stuffed if we actually ended up with a leave result (I know, unlikely, right?!), and then 5 months down the line discovered that all those experts and online remain warriors didn't tell us it wouldn't be implemented, unless passed in a heavily remain-leaning parliament!

After all, wouldn't it be embarrassing if those on both sides didn't, at any point leading up to the referendum, mention that this decision would still be bounced back to parliament regardless?!

Just imagine if, for example, we'd blown £9m of taxpayer money on a leaflet telling every UK household that the referendum result would be implemented immediately? How embarrassing! And wouldn't it be so embarrassing if we'd gone to the trouble of flying the US President over (he's quite busy) to 'terrorfy' [sic] and scare the sh*t out of people, so they vote in what is essentially just an opinion poll! Gosh, that would be silly! At least now that we all know, politicians like the leader of the opposition won't do anything silly like suggest Article 50 should be invoked immediately, so as to negotiate an exit from the EU!

I'll be sure to bookmark your post, so that 5 months from now, just in case, I can stop all the bickering on here, and say: "hey, guys! ignorance is no excuse! This constitutional expert called it well before the referendum even took place!! Stop pandering to press 'irresponsibility' [sic] in reporting how 'parlimenary' [sic] democracy works!!".

Oh, wait.

And we have the same situation now only magnified massively.
The Brexit Vote has done two things.
Firstly, it's made a lot of people on both sides very unhappy (divide and rule).
Secondly, it's deflected from the only real problem that affects us all, the corrupt financial system that has been forced upon us for many many years now. And the kicker is, it'll only get worse for all of us.

Brexit has given 'hope' to some and put 'the willies' up others but it really isn't that big a deal in the grand scheme (regardless of what many would like to think). It's a distraction, plain and simple. A distraction from the real problems that we ALL face and will continue to unless things change. And all the while we bicker amongst ourselves, 'the elite' are rubbing their hands.
Sadly, i'm not sure who the bigger cunds are tbh. Many who believe that their vote really matters (either way) or the elite who are laughing their f'kin heads off with the situation they've purposely created.

Yes but my point still stands. The most UKIP have ever had support wise for a poll is 24%. Which to me says 76% weren't so bothered about a referendum.

You'll be able to back that up with figures, right? The percentage of those voting Conservative, because they were assured a referendum on the EU, that's 0%, right? Cite your sources, please.

Excellent post. And no doubt, the financial sector will be offered further 'incentives' not to leave the UK now.
