The news report said all areas of construction. Not round my way comrade. What you are failing to recognise is the knock on effect of all these new houses and the people who live in them. The roads, the doctor's surgeries, the hospitals, the schools.

To be fair the population of Burgess Hill has rocketed up in the last few years, but the infrastructure has improved. We have three nail bars and 12 coffee shops now. The crime rate is still low as well as we have no police to log crime statistics. So I totally dispute comments that extra housing is putting a strain on local amenities. And my nails look fab.

Plus one of the nail bars did a wonderful anal bleach for you.

one of the many local 'barbers' in my area is creating plenty of work of late. I came past last thursday evening and at the end of davidson road and lower addiscombe road were three van loads of baseball capped coppers all dispersing to go and get their hair cut it seems. The late opening times of this venue (10:00pm) seem to help as well.

I wonder how so many of them manage to survive in low income areas, which struggle to support newsagents and small independent businesses - but yet you can get four or five barbers and nail bars in direct competition on the same street.... They're washing something... and it ain't hair.

You sound like the Pope in the Middle Ages who refused to believe that the Earth was orbiting the Sun. Fcuking millions of immigrants have piled into the UK in the last few decades, plus all their offspring. If we tried to build 500,000 homes a year (plus all the necessary infrastructure) that would never be enough to cope with the influx of immigrants let alone population growth of those already here! Yet you refuse to believe that the main reason for the current shortage of houses is immigration?

Only 142,900 built in 2015 and 21% less in 2014 I checked it and frankly its pathetic. In 1968 Harold Wilson's labour government got 468,00 homes built. I think that surprised me too!! Doesn't surprise me. In the 60s the UK was still building on land devastated by WWII and/or with temporary erected prefabs on. We also naively built on flood plain and created new towns and wrongly built cheap tower blocks creating social problems. We needed to build back then to rehouse our own people. 50 years on and land is hard to find for starters and we are trying to house half of Europe, Africa and Asia here as well FFS.
