Some things are beyond any man and I think it was Shrewsbury.

I like him, I'm to young to have seen him play but I know he was a fantastic player for us. However, the lack of attention and support he gave us through are dreaded years in the championship was awful. Only really started mentioning and associating himself with us once we got back up.

What a player Ian Wright was. The most exciting Palace player I have seen in almost 50 years of supporting The Palace. I was gutted when he left us for Arsenal, and disliked him for a a long time. Especially after the badge kissing incident, that I was there to witness. I have forgiven him now, and only remember him in a Palace shirt with fondness and pride.
A new era of total football is on the way to Selhurst Park!! |

One of the great players in our history, but would have never have progressed so much with us without Mark Bright, so I think our greatest strikers as a partnership......something rare nowadays with most clubs playing just 1 up front.............................,a man that could do it on his own ? Don Rogers for me , wish we had got him earlier in his career, went pass people for fun in the days of cloggers and s*** pitches ..

Been meaning to upload this to You Tube for a while. Doesn't seem to be on there already. Sure many bought this video back in 1991 then promptly threw it out a few months later. Looking back at it now, it's a good little documentary, charting his life right up to the point just before he left; none of that Arsenal debacle that happened late '91 onwards. To many of us, that's where the story ended anyway. I would say this video is a collectors item for one thing and one thing alone; at 14:50 they show a clip of a training session at Mitcham. It's legend that Steve Coppell used to join in sometimes and be the best player on the pitch. Seen it with my own eyes when i used to go on occasion. I am almost positive it is Coppell you see here with a trade mark right wing run and cross.

probably a myth, but still of interest, Never heard that before. Mind you, Man Utd were allowed to suddenly re loan Les Sealey despite the fact his loan had expired, it was after the transfer deadline and there was no emergency as Jim Leighton wasn’t injured; so by the FA’s standards set there, we could’ve drafted in Coppell, Paul Gascoigne and Marco Van Basten for the final! Missed a trick.

probably a myth, but still of interest, I have a vague recollection of this as well. I expect it was just mind games. The big talking point for us was would Ian Wright be fit to start, he had broken his leg earlier in the season. Well he came off the bench and scored 2 who knows what would have happened if he had started.

Read loads on this through the years and actually talked to IW about it. He wanted to start and should have started the replay. SC was trying to protect him so soon after injury but made the wrong call. Sometimes the managers get it right like bringing him off the bench in the first game, sometimes they get it wrong. The regret of not taking our big chance stays with me 30 years on.

If anything it is a credit to the man that he did not want that to happen to Wright. It will always be on of those what if's.
