I quite agree but I'm yet to be convinced a solution exists that doesn't maintain a single market/customs union on the island of Ireland. It's not this generations fault but current generations inherit the past so are responsible for dealing with it.

We have had free movement of people with the Republic predating the EU. As for companies that import and export across the border they will have an electronic process and customs will audit that. There maybe some smuggling but that is not new been going on for years. As I have said previously what the EU is really worried about is the potential loss of tax revenue if we drop our VAT rates.
