Remember the good old days when foreign students would come here to study and either return home to improve their countries or get well paid meaningful employment here, paying taxes and contributing to British society? And then somebody realised that there were an awful lot of bogus educational establishments offering fake degrees to foreign students who would neither go home nor add anything to the UK… Keep up, those bogus education scammers were targeted and closed down years ago. It’s the major universities that receive the students these days. 80% of whom go home afterwards whilst having been able to work 20 hours a week whilst here, thus contributing to the uk economy as well as paying fees.

Rather worryingly a recent report claims that 1/3 of people who came to work in the UK in the care sector are actually doing other jobs instead. It doesn't surprise me I have no faith that anybody in authority is checking that people are sticking to their work permits. Where did you read that? As the employer usually sponsors the applicant they are responsible for them and with the shortage of staff would be very concerned if they disappeared as they would not be able to replace them. The NHS is recruiting HCAs from abroad these days and takes care of all the arrangements including finding accommodation. Which is a major headache.

However the figures are presented, it is absurd to say, as some posters on here do, that current levels of immigration that are way over 1 million people a year are needed to support the NHS. I have given you the real figures, the % in the major segments and the link to where they are published. Kindly read them and try to understand what they imply. As has been pointed out the totals will often include accompanying family members.

You need to get your facts right, rather than regurgitating right-wing tropes. 1.2 million arrived. 0.5 million emigrated. The net figure was 672,000 which was nevertheless historically very high. Of those 33% were on working visas, predominantly for the health and care sectors. 39% were though for study visas. Students mostly return home after their courses end. I did get my facts right - 1.2 million immigrants arrived as you have confirmed.

Behind a paywall so same from Express And I was referring to care workers not necessarily NHS. Edited by Badger11 (29 Feb 2024 4.10pm)

How many incoming migrants are skilled and going to do well paid jobs versus Emigrants? Is it a like for like or is it low paid low skilled workers replacing well paid skilled leavers.

I wouldn't worry about immigration and the NHS, under the tories you will probably die before being seen anyway. Just looking on the bright side.

Yes, I know these were closed down ages ago (hopefully). I wonder how many of those bogus students are still in the UK making meaningful contributions to the UK. I’m pretty sure they weren’t all rounded up and deported and, if the were, I wonder if a mob tried to prevent their removal, a la Glasgow confrontation when the Border Force had to release two people who had overstayed their welcome.
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |
