How about Billy Gilbert - the original David Luiz? He could never work out if he was a centre back or a centre forward, but it made for some exciting and hairy stuff at both ends of the pitch.

This thread confirms the fact that as Palace supporters we are rather partial to loony wingers - not loony as in mad but loony as in when they get the ball, anything could happen from a goal for Palace to said player trying to beat an opponent more than once and generally buggering things up. I give you - Don Rogers (plus had a serious tache to go with it and also did a Pele)

Obviously some fine players already mentioned. Of those that havn't, in very poor teams in the 80's I used to like both David Giles and Alan Irvine (the benchmark was pretty low in those days).

Sorry mate, but I know memory fades as you get older and I'm always a bit biased because he's my favourite all time player, but surely you're pi55ed?? Edited by monkey (19 Jan 2015 5.19pm)

My pick would be:- 1. Johnny Byrne Quote OldFella at 17 Nov 2014 12.25pm
Difficult to argue with those except Taylor 4 and Hilaire 5. But all time might have to include Peter Simpson! OK - a different thread - who do we think were the 5 most exciting? The ones who really set Selhurst alight with anticipation? My pick 1. Don Rogers With honourable mentions perhaps for Attilio, Matt Jansen, Wrighty, Alan Whittle and Yogi Bear Hughes
lo Selhurst silva felix, lo Selhurst cara nutrix, viget, vigeat, vigebit! Best team:- Jackson; Gilbert, Evans, Cannon, Sansom; Hughes, Kember, McNichol; Byrne, Holton, Wright. |
