To be honest why should he have to sign a contract just to appease fans in the face of the rampant media speculation and exaggeration there is these days. He agreed to, and extended his contract with us last year. If we wants to let that run down and assess his options at the end of his contract fair play to him, why shouldn't he? We have no right over the player and should respect his wishes, as I'm sure the club do. He has more than demonstrated his commitment to us so if did want to leave at the end of his contrast I don't think we could begrudge him that.

He won't be guaranteed regular football at any top 6 side, Man City and Liverpool don't need him, can't see him going back to Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea are unknown quantities given their new managers (infact Chelsea could still lose their best players to Madrid), which leaves Spurs. I don't think they will pay £70m and trying offer us Sissoko at £30m is beyond laughable. I always thought Everton was nothing step, and now they have bought Richarlison. Dortmund is abit of gamble and now Schurle has gone, I'm not sure they would stump up the full £70m.

But if he wanted to play in a World Cup, why sign on the dotted line for the Ivory Coast. I think he cut his nose off to spite his face there. As for the 70 million valuation, I think he is worth more than that especially as Richaldson went for 50 million from Watford to Everton, I guess a player is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them, but that seems a lot for a misfiring forward and we have already got one of them in Tekkers.

£65m and I would sooner have Tomkins. I really like Tomkins. But he’s a 29 year old ‘second Center back’, Maguire is 25 and will be the main Center back. Tomkins is great with a main man like Sako. I really like Tomkins, but McGuire looks like the real deal. More of a Terry /Adams then a Cahill/Bould.

That is not an argument to sell him. A very quaint notion, doesn't seem to happen in football.

We shall see, but Maguire looks like another one who will do well in an international finals once but will go back to his old self when the season starts especially if he gets a big pay rise on the back of the World Cup. A couple of players did that in Euro 16 - Hal Robson-Kanu springs to mind. Never looked to me like he would put in 100% shift week in week out.
