Apparently Stockport and Blackpool are tussling over Banks for a fee circa £500,000.
I suppose the reality is that most of the young players who are heralded as the future may make a career in football, but not with Palace.
Anybody remember Sam Woods and Brandon Pierrick who were being hyped a few years ago?
Rak Saki looks to have the best chance of the present crop, but I'd be surprised if the likes of Gordon, O'Brien and Plange make too many appearances at first team level for Palace.
In the last decade the only youngsters to make a significant first team impact for Palace are AWB and Mitchell.
That may improve with the new Academy, but it's still early days.
As posted on another thread I can't recall us producing one striker since the days of Swindlehurst and Walsh over 40 years ago.

I think O’Brien has a good chance but he must be patient. David Ojoh (?) is an absolute beast and I have every confidence he will become a first team squad member

A slight digression but not worthy of a separate post. Where are Banks, Plange and Ebiowei in the equation. I know Banks scored pre season. Don't think they are in the States.
Is the answer just Roy or will they not make the grade. Would have thought at least one would be regular on the bench.

Banks & Plange were in the States with the U21's in their tournament. Ebiowei? No idea.

Clinton O'Morrison. Mckenzie and Grabban had half decent championship careers too. Good while ago now too.

Which ever young player leaves lets hope we have a 20% sell on clause and first dibs if we match the fee.

You get the feeling Banks has the technical ability - but needs to get stronger, faster and more experienced. I'm not sure I'd be keen on selling him. Imagine if he were the same player at say Chelsea or Liverpool - they wouldn't be selling for 500k.

If we don't put them in the first team why would we expect anything more. Chelsea and Liverpool blood their youth players.

Certainly regards JRS and combined with the departure of Zaha and injury to Olise I agree. He should at the least be on the bench and given game time when the opportunity presents itself.

Probably because they are not quite good enough.
Just shows the fine lines of top level football now.
I think PV said 2% of academy players will make it into top level.
So maybe one a year?
We are so far not even getting that.

£500,000 is not much above what the club spent bringing Banks to the club, if the club has given up on him , and that includes deciding he will not make Championship, then maybe let him go. This has to apply to all of the young players the club has paid substantial fees for . Not many will play for us in the Premier, it’s how it is , but if not by loaning them they need to reach Championship level if the club is to get anything at all out of them. For me Banks is not improving quick enough to think he will be first team in any Premier side any time soon, but he has got more in him, than the level Blackpool, and Stockport are at, even though the suggested fee is fair as it stands.

Jake O'Brian looks a very accomplished player from what I have seen.

I think it might work for Eze, he is a much humbler person than Olise, who as you have said is seeing the stars in his eyes, but beside that, 30k a week is embarrassingly bad for Eze.

You have to judge his wage on what he was when a joined though, a Championship player with potential, rather than what he has become since.

Clearly now he's worth a lot more and in an ideal world we'd give him a new 3 year deal on a bigger wage and a promise to sell him next summer for X amount.

I think something that is massively in our favour is that he'll want to get into the Euros squad next summer and playing under Roy is probably his safest route to making that happen. If he moves to a big club and sits on the bench, he might miss out.
