That doesn't tie in with Mainz said, they said 14m euros, with 3m addons, and an obligation to buy if he plays starts 1 game, someone is telling porkies, if he plays well nobody will question the signing, if he plays rubbish and still signs the porkies will be revealed

I'm sure Mateta will given a REAL chance this season, so there will no excuses if he fails.
I am not a bot. No, seriously, I'm not. |

Surely this is the better option? Ayew had proven himself a useful, hard working premier league striker with a reasonable goals to games ratio, has mobility and hold up play. Plus he's a hard working but crap winger in my opinion, so it's not like we'd miss him out wide. Whether it's a bit much for the likes of Banks or Rak-Sahki to fill in wide right only time will tell, but given the arrival of Gallagher it's possible that Schlupp could go out wide.
I tend to agree with you re the Ayew option and that he's more effective as a striker than a wide player and with the way PV wants to play he may do well in the central striking role. However, it depends on how the club see the Mateta situation. If they think there's a player in there who they want to buy then now is the time to give him a chance. We need to know sooner rather than later whether or not he's up to it. Confidence is everything especially with strikers and having just won a penalty and scored from the spot he could do with playing at least the next game or two.

As I see it, either Woosnam is right or it's simply an 18 month loan with an option to buy.

I was originally excited by the prospect of Gabbiadini and even Gareth Taylor. How wrong I was. I should know better these days - you would think - I still think there's a player in Mateta. I'm willing to cut him some slack if he's just recovered from Covid. He seems to lack composure in front of goal, however, as others have said. Confidence thing? - not sure. Fingers crossed.

Gabbiadini scoring rate was something like a goal every 2 and a bit games [some clever clogs will tell us the correct rate ] His problem was , he was a replacement for the favourite Ian Wright , so therefor [ like many others]he was not liked .

Two things you need to remember; 1, Transfermkt is in my opinion, far and away the best site for stats, and info, it has been running for 21 years and was founded and based in Germany.
