How about honorary president or similar?

... three of our stands aren't dedicated to people. It would be fitting if the club recognised him in some way.

Roy must go at the end of the season with a pat on the back, hopefully, before he, inevitably, bores us all to death again.

A rather unnecessary dig, especially given he’s just won us 3 on the bounce after we failed to win a single game for 3 months.

Strange.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Might be appropriate to name the main stand after Roy, born in 1924, and Roy popped up shortly thereafter.

Judging by comments on the 'Next Manager' thread, you are clearly not alone in this view.

However:
1. I'm not convinced Roy would agree to return full time for another year and I can't imagine Sheila being over-impressed with the idea.
2. Whilst our performances in the last 3 games have been enjoyable, we have to remember that we've only beaten the bottom two teams and a 16th place Leeds team who should have been out of sight at half time. As I've said elsewhere, those three teams are where they are for a reason - they aren't very good.
3. Just like with Zaha, we have to move on to new things sooner or later and this summer would seem (to me at least) an apt time to do so.

In the unlikely event Hodgson did want to stay and the club appointed him, I wouldn't be disappointed.

I'm not someone who sees Hodgson as a purely defence-minded manager. He is essentially a pragmatist who recognizes that if you can't defend you are unlikely to win many matches and when you do have good attacking talent you need to use them. He sets his teams up according to the strengths and weaknesses of the players available and in his last two years with us he had a bunch of ageing players who were mainly past their sell-by date and needed to work within a very tight defensive system if we were to survive. It wasn't pretty watching but it got the job done.

I am pleased that he has now had the chance to show that with the right blend of players he is quite willing to encourage a more attacking mentality. I'd love him, though, to get some more good results this season and then ride out into the sunset so-to-speak leaving us fans with a positive memory of his time with us.

When we lost 7 out of 8 with 1 draw at the end of the 19/20 season and then 6 out the last 8 with 2 wins the following season we had Townsend, Zaha, Benteke up front or Ayew in one of those 3 spots (Mateta as well in the latter season), which is not a lot different to what we have now. We had a more attacking full back in PVA playing and a younger Ward, Milivojevic and McArthur at a much higher level than they are now. All in all it wasn’t that bad a side and certainly not as limited as you are making out.

Given that centre half’s don’t have a great influence on our attacking (although I accept that Andersen has helped with some of his cross field passing) the only difference between the teams is Olise for Townsend and Eze who has only recently returned to fitness.

I’m not entirely disagreeing but I thought it should be mentioned as we were awful to watch at that time.

We were certainly awful then, but watching Palace more recently at the end of the PV era wasn't a very pleasant experience either.

Given the players at his disposal Hodgson contrived to have the team play the worse football ever seen at Selhurst Park, particularly during his final two seasons, and this includes the thin gruel served up by Vieira. Worth remembering when others laud Roy to the sky. At the moment Roy is enjoying himself and looking far more relaxed than in his previous stint, naturally this is good for him and good for the team, but to think that Roy is the person to guide us through the next 3 odd years with some master plan in hand is frankly nonsense, he'll be approaching 80 by then.
I get the impression that some fans would love to preserve this moment of a happy successful reunion for ever, but time marches on. One thing is certain though, there are 3 teams worse than us

What a strange thing to say, but I’ll bite…

It was “boring” as he didn’t have the squad, our centre backs needed more protection so we had to sit deep every game , we didn’t have as much flare with Olise in squad and eze was injured for ages aswell ,also didn’t have Doucoure to hold the midfield ,
It’s quite clear what he is capable of with this younger squad

If he wants another year give it to him ,

What's tinpot about honouring a manager who, in terms of keeping Palace in the PL, has made a greater contribution than anyone?

Don't you worry, Roy & Ray will have a statue placed along the Walk Of Fame leading up to the new stadium, alongside such luminaries as Sir Steve Coppell, Clinton Morrison, Geoff Thomas et al.

I would like Roy to stay on another season but will he bleed the younger players in?
