Glenn Hoddle for me, need a top coach, even if he is a bit barmy at times.

I like Hoddle too, he ticks every box especially the most important one - English I'm a little put off by the fact he's been out of management for 10 years, one could argue he isn't up to speed with the modern game - one of the problems with Crapello was his methods were very outdated I still like Redknapp, he's very down to earth, very passionate and would kill to lead out his country, he would instill that belief and honour in the players which is sadly lacking. He would create a siege mentality and British style which the players would be used to playing. All this slow build up bollox is alien to them. Sorry but you can't have a foreigner in charge. How can they preach the pride and honour of representing your country? They themselves wouldn't be 'proud' to lead England, It would just be another job to them. and the Sven + Crapello reigns surely prove it didn't work?

I liked Hoddle when he was in charge of the England team but to be 10 years out of the front line (imho) makes him a non starter.

The other issue with going for Hoddle is that he lost the job the first time around because of something he said which immediately became front page news, just how long would it be until some smart arsed journalist trying to make a name for himself goes digging for more sound bites at a crucial time.

All this "passion" rubbish gets rolled out every time we go out of a major tournament. Do people really believe these guys go out there in front of millions of people, having spend their whole lives working harder than the rest to ensure they make it as a prop and then say "ah forget it, Euro Champs, who gives a s***?" It's not a lack of passion, they're scared shi*less. Out of interest, what effect do you think "more passion" would have on the team on the pitch that would have meant we didn't lose against Iceland? Note that we are above average in running distance covered during the Euros so it's clearly not a lack of running.

Who has just turned round the fortunes of English rugby and who is the supremo in charge of English cricket. The answer to both is "an Australian"

Whilst it would be nice to have an Englishman in charge, I do think going English for the sake of it is pointless - realistically, there are no English managers good enough at the moment- the fact we are seeing suggestions like Warnock, Bruce and Southgate is testament to that.

You're right that the players looked scared and passive. I think Woy wanted them to play a patient, possession game but they don't play that way for their clubs so we need to go back to basics, Redknapp's sides are blood and thunder, a way English players know how to play - at frenetic pace.

Agree entirely. If there is a good English candidate, great, go for it. Otherwise, we need the best person for (and willing to take) the job.
