I just cant see the sense in buying Austin for 6 or 8 mill now when he is free in the summer. At 6-8 mill it's 1 mill per month. For it to be worth it having Austin would have to make a 8 place difference in the table between ow and the end of the season (with each Premier place being worth approx 1 mill more each step). He aint going to be that much of a difference, I'd rather we brought in a young potential striker cheaper as cover for CW and go for Austin in the summer. The only way we should go for him now is if there are firm offers on the table for him from other clubs. A number of points. First, 6-8 million is not a lot of money in today's currency for a proven Premier League goal scorer. Second, if we save that money in transfer fee now he'll demand (most of) it as a signing bonus when he's a free agent. That's the way it works, and why players hold on until they're out of contract. Third, (even though I have never wanted Austin personally) he would make a massive difference. Do you really think a proven centre forward up top would not make us a better team? That is madness. And fourth, we don't need a young striker with potential for, likely, the same price. Look how Gayle has worked out. We need the finished article. Bottom line is that Austin will almost certainly move in January. QPR are out of the promotion race. They will take whatever money they can still get. Yes, everyone may publicly demand this and that when it comes to money and fees but these things get resolved. Whether he comes here I don't know (I'd prefer Remy myself) but he will go somewhere.

If he sees all clubs between 7th and 14th as much of a muchness then he'll care even less. We can offer him a reasonable commute from West London to Beckenham though. btw I'm not doubting his professionalism once he signs, but Charlie Austin comes before QPR fans, QPR, us, everyone.

It'll then rely on clubs nearby wanting him and not the likes of Villa or Sunderland. And he has knee problems. So, £8mil or a bit less and £5mil signing on fee or a bit less for someone with knee issues and available in 5 months for £5mil?

Be nice to see Charlie sitting in the stand next to Steve Parish on Sunday
Over priced, over rated, and thank god over the other side of the stream, lets hope he stays there.
Maybe we could do a swap deal with campbell plus cash, goalscorers cost money unless their contracts run out which in Austins case applys as his contract runs out in the summer. if he doesn't go this month he'll go on a free in the summer and there'll be a list of clubs as long as your arm wanting him. Austin to Palace in Jan or in the summer on a free hell yeah. Really, where have you been, QPR have said more than once they wont let him go for less than £8m. That's silly money for a player with less than 6 playing months on his contract, no club is going to pay that not knowing whether they can get value, especially as he is injury prone.
If we signed him in the summer we would still pay a small fortune in signing on fees and wages. The goals he could provide are potentially the difference between finishing 6/7 to 12/13 and that alone is worth about £8 million. Then you have theft that we become a more attractive proposition to potential new players. Plenty of people get excited at being linked to players from Juve or Marseille when they'll cost more and more of a risk. We should stick to trying to maintain a "British Spine" unless someone is already PL proven.

I've said it before, the length of time left on his contract is largely a red herring. Is £8 million a lot for what is as near as dammit a proven PL goal scorer? No If we signed him in the summer we would still pay a small fortune in signing on fees and wages. The goals he could provide are potentially the difference between finishing 6/7 to 12/13 and that alone is worth about £8 million.
