Believe me I'm not the type of person to over react or panic unnecessarily but I genuinely believe we are a club in big trouble.

We have an ageing squad, 14 players out of contract in a year's time, a 73 year old manager going through the motions, certain players going through the motions, only 2 strikers, one of which has scored 5 goals in 2 and a half seasons. We have no money, we play a style of football which is an insult to the word football and we have a chairman who has been desperate to sell the club for a number of seasons now.

Our last 9 games were the warning signs of what's to come this season. A ridiculously huge overhaul is needed in nearly every department of our club and we have neither the funds or the right staff to do that.

Just my opinion of course and no doubt some will accuse me of over reacting... I pray that I'm wrong of course!

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Not just you. I live in hope we may be surprised this summer but I very much doubt it. If we do not get reinforcements in, I can see no other outcome than a very painful relegation

Unfortunately I fully agree. I actually tend to be an optimist when it comes to Palace but am seriously fearing for us at the moment.

We're being linked with some top players but if we end up with yet another damb squib of a window with Steve and Roy saying "We tried to do the deals but they were out of our price range" then I fear we could be in for a grim season.

On top of all you mentioned, chuck in the point that we are arguably the team who benefit most from having our supporters in the ground and that not being likely for quite some time.

I said on Monday was hoping for some good news this week and I think we need it to lift spirits.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Summarises my thoughts entirely too.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Hi Kenny

I have a lot of sympathy with your thoughts and sometimes feel the same myself. However in my opinion which could obviously be mistaken, I don't think Hodgson is going through the motions. There is no need for him to still be in football unless he actively wants to. The club did I believe receive £20m from the PL and might (fingers crossed) have £20m stashed away, I definitely agree that the last 9 games were a warning sign and a lot of players were either exhausted or had given up. A big overhaul is needed. It's good that Ferguson has signed, but we definitely need at lest two or three more good young players especially if Wilf is on his way out. It's definitely crunch time for the club. No one, including Parish would want to see the club relegated. My conclusion is that the club does have resources to bring in a number of players, and unlike other clubs doesn't have to sell before buying. I believe, crossing fingers, that there will be three or four good incoming players before the start of the season? Time will tell.

I hope you are right, we may also have an unexpected "windfall" from Sorloth. However, if rumours are to be believed (I know!) Freedman is not the easiest person to deal with, obviously you need to get as good a deal as possible, but has to be some give and take.
Fingers crossed for some encouraging news soon

It can go either way based on this transfer window. No decent signings I reckon we are about evens money for relegation. We need 3 or 4 players, let's see what happens.

I agree most of the last few posts and share he pessimism. So will force a degree of optimism into this one.

On Wilf, I will work on the Cantona/Ginola principle. At their prime [aside from our natural disinclination to one of them], 2 of the best players to have graced the prem and worthy of any national team. Yet, France did not pick them - and they won the world cup and euro cup in succession. Could Wilf leaving balance the team and improve the dressing room?

On the staff left behind, they are indeed old and unenthused. But most will have got a kick up the rear [already coming through in the spurs game]; and most will have to stay to support the few young players hopefully coming in. A more balanced happy team will hopefully push for another comfy mid-table finish.

Roy does produce football that is dull to watch. He also produces football that gets the most out of an experienced and small squad that keeps us in this league. That is one area where I have less to fear.

I have heard it said from a clearly disgruntled supporter who bellowed out that we only managed to sign Ferguson because there wasn't a great demand for his services, accordingly we weren't in competition with other clubs. And he was cheap!

Although the winless period at the end of the season was concerning I’m not unduly worried by this and don’t believe it suddenly made us a terrible team.
Just as the four wins on the trot without conceding either side of the lockdown didn’t mean we suddenly became world beaters.
It’s a question of trying to maintain a balanced perspective.
I think the current squad with solid professionals like Cahill, Tomkins, Dann, Mcarthur, Ward , Kelly and Kouyate should at least keep us defensively solid and could keep us up.
However, for a number of windows now there has been a need to refresh the squad and all we hear are excuses why this hasn’t happened.
While I have a lot of time for Parish and his achievements for the club and respect Freedman’s ability to spot a player it’s surely valid to question why we don’t seem able to close deals.
This is not a one off but a pattern over a number of windows.
It’s not as if we were shopping at Champions League level where there is much competition.
We can close the deals for ‘low hanging fruit’ like Cahill, Mcarthy and Ayew where there is not much competition.
Surely we should at least be able to attract the cream of the Championship and bring a few in from that level.
Other clubs manage to close deals without such a song and dance.
My concern is that this window looks like it could follow the pattern of other recent windows.

I am another one with pessimistic views currently.
We need some new players urgently and only time will tell if they are going to arrive.
Roy will (likely) be leaving at the end of next season and that does not bode well when you are looking to sign new players.
Maybe Dougie is his successor - who knows - but if he is then he should be sitting on the bench with Roy and Ray when the season starts.
Players out of contract - unless they are saleable then I don't care much. If they are though then they need sorting out which will hopefully start to happen soon.
Not playing the youngsters in those last 9 games was a huge error in my opinion - we might have seen something for the upcoming season - those games were pretty pointless (no pun intended) and a waste of time as could be proved shortly.
That run will likely continue if we don't get some new blood as it will just be the same, tired old stuff.
I worry a lot that without some quick action we could see Palace regress a long way very soon.

I think many of us have felt let down by misplaced optimism in previous windows, so I am not ready to show any great degree of confidence that the club will suddenly pleasantly surprise us all. However...we do have a very experienced and settled squad and management team that is well placed to introduce some young blood. There is no doubt we need the pace and energy that youth brings, but if we make a few more signings of that nature I think that would put us in a solid position for a top half finish.

If, say, Wilf left and we signed two new wingers and a striker who are ready for the first team then I really think that would make a huge difference. Last season we survived with only one fully-fit winger and an Ayew.

I am going to reserve my judgement until the window closes, although I really think we need to get our business largely done before 12 September. Between 'in the know' posters and Newsnow I imagine my emotions will be a roller-coaster over the next two months.
