Couldn't see a thread but apologies if there is one.

Just been watching sky sports news and they were discussing Palace and saying they saw no issues with any of the signings other than the goalie. They felt that Jules has been at the club for 10 years and is settled in the team with the back 4 also and any change could adversely affect the team.

Has anyone heard any hint that Hennessey is anything other than back up for Julian? I know we signed him for a fair bit of cash but would rather have him as back up until end of season and if a change to be made, then for it to be made in the summer. The interview with Hennessey made it sounds like he will be a starter as he said he was fed up of sitting on the bench and that it will be nice for that to change or something along those lines.

Whatever way you look at it, this, along with the rest of the transfers certainly make for an interesting few months ahead!

Hope Speroni at least sees out the rest of the season as the number one. He's been great.

This subject was covered here yesterday (see the Hennessey thread in Transfer Talk.) For me, no question Hennessey has been bought to be number one because, simply, he is a). a better keeper than Jules, and b). much more TP's type...commanding, physically dominating, etc. However, I do not think he will be handed the shirt; he will have to win it (or Jules will have to lose it.) My guess is that Hennessey is 100% certain (or as near as can be) to start the first game of next season. I don't think he'll start vs. West Brom (although it's possible) but I wouldn't be surprised if he was the incumbent by March 1st.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Is it posssible that Tony Pulis is wary of Jules' "legend" status?

To have a restaurant at Selhurst Park named after
him is surely inappropriate.

And now Jules has another restaurant (of his own) in Purley. That allows plenty of scope for distraction, especially if there are problems with it.

Pulis wants to make his own mark on the team and he probably doesn't want to encourage the "cult of personality" in his players.

Jules has done great service but I fear this may be his last season with Palace.

There is a precedent. John Jackson was another Palace goalkeeping legend, but he didn't last long when Malcolm Allison became boss.

Here's hoping that the influx of newcomers doesn't undermine team spirit, stability and confidence.

On another tack, got to feel sorry for Price - what future for him?

Got the impression from the interview that he did when he signed that he (Hennesey) thinks he's starting against Arsenal.

Agree with this.

If Price is patient I can see him becoming the new no2. Jules will probably be happy to fight for his place but if he sees no opportunities coming his way i'd imagine eventually he will seek a move

Personally I'd be appalled if Hennessey walks into the team on Sunday. What has Speroni done to deserve that ?

I don't care how good he is (and how good can he be aged 27 playing in league 1 ??)

It should be Speronis place until he isn't good enough, and Hennessey should be here now for when that happens.

You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue
Yours sincerely
Mile Jedinak

Speroni has earnt us many points on his own over the years. It would be very foolish to just change him for Hennessey straight away.Throwing Hennessey into the deep end too early as he cannot have had the chance to get to know his defense in the last 3 days. He might be no.1 soon but surely Jules has to lose his place.

Hennesssey surely cannott be up to speed after coming from league 1 !!!???

It`s all goalkeeper talk , What ever league you in or team , you always act as number 1 even if your not .. If you played in goal for period of time you get use to it..

Just remember , you got to be slightly crazy to be a keeper .. and have a lot of front ..

He knows he`s going to be second choice.

It's Speroni's job to lose and frankly he's done nothing to shake my confidence. If anything, I think he has something to prove with World Cup coming up. Argentina's top 3 don't even start for the respective clubs (last time I checked).

There were rumours at the time that it had something to do with Allison and Mrs Jackson
