So timely, it must be a good omen.

PBS in the US just showed a feature length documentary in their Great Performances series: The Dave Clark Five and Beyond - Glad All Over.

Some great footage. Only downside was the football footage was at White Hart Lane, since Dave's a Tottenham boy.

The trailer is available on YouTube.

This is a doc being shown on American Public TV (PBS) as part of the "Great Performances" series. Oddly, while the football singers are definitely Palace, the footage being shown is not us.

My apologies. That stinks. Since its PBS, maybe BBC or one of the ITV websites may have it.

Get yourself a proxy service. There's lots of them about and usually very inexpensive. They make it appear that you are accessing the site from the local region. For example, although we have regular TV access to PBS channels in Canada, for some reason we can't access videos on the PBS site without a proxy service. My service, UnoTelly, allows me to access US sites such as PBS as well as BBC for MOTD and other goodies. I can also access US Netflix that typically has more content than my Canadian subscription.

How did we end up adopting Glad All Over if Dave was a Tottenham boy?

Palace's long time tannoy dj, John Henty, started playing it and it caught on. It took off after he got the Villa Park dj to play it for the walk-on for the 1990 Cup semi-final. Those of us who took the away coaches were given the words to sing in order to drown out the scousers when they sang YNWA. If you watch the YouTube video of that match, just before Andy Gray scored the equalizer for 3 all, they were singing YNWA. Just as the ball went in, their arms went down and ours shot up. Today, most commentators agree that Palace has the best support in the Prem. I think it all stems from Glad All Over.

It certainly came to prominence for the 1990 final after the team's TV appearance: [Link] But it really started in the late 60's after it was released. I can recall the kids banging on the metal signs surrounding the pitch in time to the song when they played it before the games. The group themselves actually played it at Selhurst in 1968.

Spurs already had that "Saints Go Marching In" funeral dirge. Not nearly the same intensity.

And I only made it to the semis. Cheers, mate.

Mike T has it right

It started with Bits and Pieces, we used to stomp our feet on the wooden boards. Then when Glad All Over came out we moved to that because you could bang your palm again the hoardings. It got played at every home game.
