So the majority saying JJ in goal so what about left back? I'd say Kenny Sansom

Uuuh, I don't really think that's a question that needs asking.

Quote Hampsterite at 16 Jun 2014 7.45pm

is it possible to compare players of the past to the present?

If you couldn't discuss this sort of thing, the Internet wouldn't exist. Can you arrive at a definitive answer? Probably not. But that, surely, isn't the goal of such discussion which, in reality, are simply ends in themselves.

As for should Doris be replaced by Joel Ward, at least for the next season or two they should both be replaced by John Humphrey who might never have been very popular at Palace but who was comfortably the most solid top flight right back we've ever had. And if not him, you could make a good case for John Sewell. Both were better than Doris. In a season or two Ward might be the best of the three, though. But I'll reserve judgment until he's done it for more than one season at top level.

Starts from my 1st season I went in 1977/78.
GK - Martyn

RB. Humphrey. Maybe Ward after seeing him another sesaon in PL

LB. Ken Sansom.

Central Defence Cannon & Fan Zhiyi

Have to have Attilio Lombardo in midfield as I see him as the most skilful player I've seen for Palace.

Others in midfield. Geoff Thomas, Aki Riihilahti & Wilf (I see as attacking as winger).

Forwards. Two from AJ, Freedman, Wright & Bright. The thing about Wright & Bright is we know they work well together.

Captain. Cannon or Thomas.

Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in?

I know we all love Jim Cannon for plenty of good reasons but if you think Cannon and Fan were a better centre half partnership than Andy Thorn and Ninja you are delusional. There's not even a debate to be had. Ditto Aki. Are you seriously telling me you'd pick him in midfield ahead of Salad, Andy Gray, David Hopkin (Mk. 1) or for that matter Jedi? You're having a laugh.

Aki is my defensive midfielder. Ahead of Jedi at the moment as whilst he is certainly 100%, has to cut out the mistakes he makes mainly in passing.

Thorn & Ninja could be the two centre halfs as like Wright & Bright know they can work together but have always liked Fan. For me, I'd go for Fan & Ninja.

I simply can't see Aki as being close to first choice DM (much as I love him). Among others easily better in my view:

Peter Nicholas
Steve Kember
Geoff Thomas
Gareth Southgate

I would say:
In goal: Jackson

Defence:
samson
Cannon
Gillbert
Hinshelwood

Midfeild:
Taylor
Thomas
Salad
Hilaire

Up front:
Ian he's a Wright traitor
Peter Simpson (only because he is our all time top scorer and he scored about 19 hatricks)

Very difficult, but of those I have seen I would say;
GK Martyn
Backs Clyne and Sansom
Midfield - Lombardo, Cannon,Jedinak and Kember
Forwards - Taylor, Byrne, Wright and Rogers.

Quote Joe Bloggs at 16 Jun 2014 3.20pm

Glazier and Martyn were both better than Jackson.

Neither AJ or Wilf would make a Palace best ever eleven.

Thats not to say that they were not good players.

We all have opinions of course, for example I did not get to watch Peter Simpson. When you compile names you have to include players such as P. Taylor-Lombardo The Don-Mark Bright-Byrne etc.

That's your opinion. Not necessarily a fact.

It could be an age thing but personally Wilf is the most exciting talent I've ever seen at Selhurst and I've heard a few elder people who have been going for longer than me say exactly the same.

Also AJ for the amount he scored in the build up to promotion and also in the Prem.

Just my opinion anyway.

We're the Arthur over ere!
