Peter, but you are right concerning Gestede's so called dominance in the air. Personally want a decent left back this window.

Everything about Cardiff City last season was toxic. I wouldn't hold poor performances for them last season against any of there players as long as they have shown they can play well elsewhere.

I think a number of fans are slightly ahead of themselves on this one. We are not in a position to sign 8m Defoes or a gomis. We'd be stupid to. We need to find rough diamonds, take a gamble, hope they pay off and then see if they have a re-sell value.

Gestede doesn't excite me, I admit it. But why? Probably because he hasn't been media-hyped. Also his record doesn't float the boat. However, if he had banged in 10 for cardiff and 20+ at his other clubs he'd be out of our price range and we'd be looking for another, err Gestede.

What I've seen is a strong player, very good in the air and potentially able to make the step up. He could be a shearer; he could be a leon best. Whatever he is I hope, if he does join, that we give him time.

We need a powerful and brave frontman to compliment the squad. Gayle is our assasin, Murray is a tidy player (who I desperately want to see do well) but we haven't got a target man who'll stick his head where it hurts. Gestede this season has proved he can play that role. Whether he can do that at the top level remains to be seen.

Looking at goal scoring records at previous clubs makes sense. However, sometimes you have to look beyond that. I remember when we got Armstrong in from Millwall ages ago for 1m quid, which back then was a big outlay. He had scored hardly anything for them. If there was a HOL back then Coppell (the manager who bought him) would have been crucified ahead of him signing. Truth is, until settled at club and integrated into a system of play that suits, nobody can really judge a player, particularly a centre forward.

Like with gomis tonight, news filtering through that he's spat his dummy out about not being allowed to leave has left a bitter taste. Even if they're desperate to play for us I don't like the thought of a player holding a club to ransom. Gives out a poor message.
